After that rainy night, something quietly changed between Chen Mo and Su Qingyi.

There was no grand confession.

No bouquet of flowers.

No dramatic promise beneath the stars.

Yet the way they looked at each other…

The way they unconsciously walked side by side…

The way their hands brushed together when no one was watching…

Made everything perfectly clear.

Neither of them needed to ask.

They were already in love.

From then on, ordinary days became extraordinary.

Every morning, Chen Mo would arrive a few minutes early and wait outside the girls’ dormitory, pretending he had simply happened to pass by.

A few moments later, Su Qingyi would appear.

Pretending she wasn’t looking for him either.

“You’re late today,” Chen Mo would tease.

She would glance at him and reply,

“No.”

“You came too early.”

Then both of them would laugh.

Even the walk to class seemed shorter when they were together.

After school, they often stayed in the library.

At first, they truly studied.

But gradually, conversations replaced textbooks.

One evening, while the setting sun painted the windows gold, Su Qingyi suddenly asked,

“Chen Mo… what’s your dream?”

He thought quietly for a long moment.

“It might sound strange.”

“I want to hear it.”

He looked outside the window.

“I want a small house.”

“Somewhere peaceful.”

“Not in the middle of a busy city.”

“Maybe near the countryside.”

“I want a garden.”

“A few fruit trees.”

“And maybe two horses.”

Su Qingyi smiled.

“Two horses?”

Chen Mo nodded seriously.

“And some cows.”

She couldn’t help laughing.

“Then what?”

He hesitated.

His voice became much softer.

“I want my parents to live with me.”

“And…”

He glanced at her.

“I hope you’re there too.”

For several seconds, Su Qingyi didn’t speak.

Her eyes reflected the warm evening light.

Finally, she whispered,

“That’s not a strange dream.”

“It’s a beautiful one.”

Chen Mo smiled.

“I’ve never wanted anything complicated.”

“I just want a peaceful life.”

Su Qingyi quietly lowered her gaze.

This boy didn’t dream of fame.

Or wealth.

Or success.

All he wanted was a place where the people he loved could stay together forever.

Without realizing it, she found herself loving him even more.

Unfortunately, not everyone shared their happiness.

Li Jun had begun noticing them.

The way they walked home together.

The way Su Qingyi smiled whenever Chen Mo was nearby.

The way she unconsciously searched for him in every crowd.

One afternoon, after class, Li Jun stopped Chen Mo in the hallway.

“You and Su Qingyi seem close lately.”

Chen Mo nodded calmly.

“We are.”

Li Jun let out a quiet laugh.

“Do you really think you’re the right person for her?”

Chen Mo remained silent.

So Li Jun continued.

“She’s one of the best students in school.”

“Beautiful.”

“Talented.”

“She has a bright future ahead of her.”

Then he looked Chen Mo up and down.

“And you?”

“What do you have besides sincerity?”

The words landed heavily.

Chen Mo clenched his fists.

Yet he didn’t lose his temper.

After a long pause, he simply replied,

“I may not be exceptional.”

“But no one will ever love her more sincerely than I do.”

Li Jun smiled dismissively.

“Sincerity won’t buy a future.”

“One day she’ll understand that.”

Without another word, Chen Mo walked away.

But the conversation lingered in his mind long after.

That night, sleep refused to come.

What if he’s right?

What if one day she realizes she deserves someone better?

Over the next few days, Su Qingyi noticed he had become quieter.

His smiles grew fewer.

His thoughts wandered more often.

Finally, she couldn’t ignore it anymore.

They were walking along West Lake when she stopped.

“Chen Mo.”

“Hm?”

She looked directly at him.

“What’s bothering you?”

He hesitated.

Then forced a smile.

“Nothing.”

“You’re lying.”

She knew him too well.

After a long silence, Chen Mo finally spoke.

“What if…”

He looked toward the water.

“What if one day you realize I’m not good enough for you?”

Su Qingyi stared at him in disbelief.

“Who told you that?”

“No one.”

He lowered his head.

“I just think about it sometimes.”

Without warning, she stepped in front of him.

Her expression became unusually serious.

“Listen carefully.”

“I don’t like you because of your grades.”

“I don’t like you because of money.”

“I don’t like you because of status.”

She gently placed a hand over his chest.

“I like you because you’re Chen Mo.”

“And if you ever say you’re not good enough for me again…”

Her brows knitted together.

“I’ll be angry.”

Chen Mo blinked.

“Why?”

A faint smile appeared on her face.

“Because you’re insulting the person I chose.”

For a moment, neither spoke.

The breeze carried ripples across the lake.

Then Su Qingyi asked quietly,

“Do you trust me?”

Chen Mo answered without hesitation.

“With my life.”

She smiled.

“Then trust my feelings too.”

As the sun slowly disappeared beyond the horizon, they continued walking together.

Golden light reflected across the water.

After several minutes, Su Qingyi suddenly stopped.

“Chen Mo.”

He turned toward her.

“I don’t want us to stay as ‘something more than friends’ anymore.”

He looked confused.

“Then what do you want?”

She met his gaze.

Without looking away.

“I want to be your girlfriend.”

Time seemed to stand still.

Chen Mo could only stare.

“Are you serious?”

She nodded.

“I’ve never been more serious.”

For the first time in days, a bright smile appeared across his face.

“Then…”

He laughed softly.

“I’d like to be your boyfriend.”

Su Qingyi couldn’t help smiling too.

“You’ve always been one.”

This time, when Chen Mo reached for her hand, neither of them tried to hide.

There was no fear.

No hesitation.

Their fingers intertwined naturally.

As though they had always belonged together.

Walking beneath the fading sunset beside West Lake, they believed the future stretched endlessly before them.

They dreamed about a quiet home.

A peaceful life.

A family gathered around the same table.

They believed they had all the time in the world.

Neither of them knew that fate was already preparing its cruelest test.

For now, they were simply two young hearts in love.

Holding hands.

Sharing dreams.

Completely unaware that one day, those memories would become both the greatest happiness…

And the deepest sorrow of their lives.
