Shen Yuan stared at Li Zhi.

Why did Li Zhi smell better than him even though it was the same laundry detergent?

Shen Yuan couldn’t figure it out.

Then he kicked Zhou Shaojie awake.

Zhou Shaojie looked up, groggily at Shen Yuan: “Hmm?”

“Where’s your husband?”

“Go to hell!”

Zhou Shaojie turned over, just about to go back to sleep, when he felt Shen Yuan kick him again.

“What?”

Shen Yuan said shyly, “I can’t sleep.”

“Then do some problems, do English, never mind, do math, do the last big problem.”

After Zhou Shaojie finished speaking, he pointed at Shen Yuan with a husky-like gesture: “If you kick me again, I’ll come to your room tonight and cosplay as a teru teru bozu.”

Shen Yuan was stunned; that was really unnecessary.

But Zhou Shaojie’s method was actually quite effective; just seeing the problem made Shen Yuan sleepy.

By the time he wrote down the solution, Shen Yuan started yawning.

“Sleep, sleep.”

Shen Yuan lay down and fell asleep instantly.

Youth is great; he could fall asleep the moment his head hit the pillow.

Of course, math problems played a significant role.

If it were physics or chemistry, Shen Yuan might have struggled to deduce the solutions, but math is different; if you don’t know math, you just don’t know it.

Waking up, Shen Yuan stretched contentedly.

Li Zhi beside him had already woken up, but his eyes were a little dazed, his mind clearly still “on startup.”

“Hey! I suddenly thought of a joke, do you want to hear it?”

Li Zhi turned his head and subconsciously nodded.

Shen Yuan cleared his throat: “So, Xiao Ming, because his parents kept him in the dark for so long, eventually suffocated to death.”

Li Zhi’s previously dazed eyes immediately turned speechless.

The joke was indeed a bit lame, but he was definitely wide awake now.

“Let me tell you a joke too,”

Li Zhi said, looking at Shen Yuan. “Xiao Ming always kicks off his blankets while sleeping. Luckily, his mom broke his leg, otherwise he would have caught a cold.”

“That’s unnecessary,”

Shen Yuan replied. Just as he finished speaking, Zhou Shaojie burst into laughter behind him.

“Haha, hahaha! Well done!”

Before he could finish laughing, Zhou Shaojie was met with a powerful lock from Shen Yuan!

“Aruba!”

Three or five burly men reappeared, dragging Zhou Shaojie to the back door of the classroom.

“Ah!!”

The bell rang, signaling the end of nap time for Class 15.

There were three classes and one self-study period in the afternoon, but those who knew about senior year self-study knew it was simply a matter of whichever teacher was available.

Especially in fast-paced classes like the top classes.

Not to mention that it had only been a short time since the start of the semester, making the last self-study period in the afternoon incredibly valuable.

Shen Yuan ate dinner at school.

Evening self-study consisted of diligently doing homework.

There were only three evening self-study sessions, but the homework consisted of six test papers—a truly grueling task.

However, Shen Yuan tacitly agreed that there would only be five.

He wouldn’t do the English test.

English was something he could do on the spot.

Unless he really had free time, he wouldn’t even touch the English test paper.

Even so, three evening self-study sessions wouldn’t be enough to finish five test papers.

Shen Yuan’s usual arrangement was to distribute his evening self-study homework among physics, math, and Chinese

. As for biology and chemistry,

he would do biology homework during Chinese class and chemistry homework during English class.

Math was out of the question; if he looked down, he’d fall behind.

If he really didn’t have time, he’d just copy homework.

As the bell rang for the end of the third evening self-study session, Shen Yuan packed up his things and waited for Li Zhi at his seat.

Watching Li Zhi put the books into his bag one by one, Shen Yuan couldn’t help but ask, “You’re putting so many books in, are you going to read them when you get home?”

Li Zhi nodded, “It’s just a few notebooks. I’ll review one section every half hour, go to bed at 11:30, that’s enough.”

Shen Yuan gave him a thumbs up, “If I were as diligent as you, I would have gotten into a top university long ago.”

Li Zhi snorted disdainfully.

Shen Yuan didn’t react much to this, but simply reached into Li Zhi’s bag and took out a notebook.

Li Zhi instinctively reached for her notebook, but Shen Yuan’s words stopped her.

“Come see Nao Nao today. You know it’s a bit slow; if you don’t come, it won’t recognize you anymore.”

Li Zhi retorted, “It just can’t hear, it’s not slow.”

Shen Yuan shrugged, took Li Zhi’s backpack and slung it over his shoulder, tossing the backpack stuck in the chair to her as well.

“Isn’t it dirty!”

Li Zhi frowned, dusting off Shen Yuan’s backpack and greeting He Zhiyu in the front row.

“Zhiyu, I’m leaving now!”

“Okay, bye-bye, see you tomorrow!”

“See you tomorrow.”

Li Zhi slung Shen Yuan’s backpack over her shoulder, and the two walked out of the classroom through the back door, one after the other.

The school building was quite crowded after school.

Li Zhi and Shen Yuan ignored each other, walking out of the building at their own pace, only meeting up at the school gate.

“When will the school leaders open the back door? They’ll probably be praised for life.”

“You’re dreaming. The back door leads directly to the road; there’s too much traffic.”

Shen Yuan scoffed.

They lived in the apartment complex across the street from the school’s back gate. Normally, the back gate would only take three or four minutes to get to the teaching building, but now they had to take a much longer route.

Although there was a shortcut, it was an old alley.

The streetlights were unreliable; sometimes the first half of the streetlights were working, but the second half were all broken.

In such situations, they either had to turn back or grit their teeth and keep going.

For safety’s sake, Li Zhi generally wouldn’t go into the old alley.

Not even if Shen Yuan was there.

Shen Yuan did want to walk through the old alley, to relive the scene of his childhood sweetheart clinging to his arm and saying she was scared.

But Shen Yuan couldn’t forget the bruises on his arm from Li Zhi pinching him the first time they walked through the old alley.

She was genuinely scared, and she really pinched him.

So, taking the shortcut during the day was one thing, but at night it was better to be safe.

Again, safety first.

The only danger of walking on the main road was that the money in their bank account might end up with some vendor.

Senior year of high school was a time when people got hungry, and even Li Zhi, without consciously controlling her diet, wouldn’t gain weight even with four meals a day.

With his brain working overtime, the energy expenditure was considerable.

Smelling the aroma of food in the air, Shen Yuan looked at the girl beside him.

“What do you want to eat?”

Li Zhi glanced at the stall: “Fried noodles, please.”

“Baby, I’m your fan!”

Li Zhi raised her foot to kick him, but Shen Yuan dodged quickly.

Because of Shen Yuan’s antics, Li Zhi changed her late-night snack to fried noodles.

A serving of fried noodles cost 10 yuan, and Shen Yuan bought two.

The two walked and ate, carrying disposable containers. Feeling thirsty, Shen Yuan asked Li Zhi if she had any water.

“Want some saliva?”

Shen Yuan opened his mouth: “Ah—”

“Hey~”

“No need.”

Shen Yuan dashed to a small shop on the street, bought a bottle of Coca-Cola, tilted his head back, and drank half of it without touching it.

“Feels better, here you go. “

Li Zhi took the Coke, finished it, and casually stuffed it into her backpack.

It was easier to carry this way, without having to put her hands behind her back.

By the time the two reached their apartment building, they had finished their late-night snack.

“Let me see if there are any marks.”

Li Zhi leaned close to Shen Yuan, tilting her head back.

Looking at the grease on the girl’s lips, Shen Yuan suddenly felt an urge to lick it.

“Want me to lick it off for you?”

“What kind of dog are you? You like to lick your master.”

“I call you master, and you want me to lick you?”

Li Zhi’s face showed disgust.

Shen Yuan looked expectant, urging, “Say it.”

Seeing Shen Yuan’s expression, Li Zhi swallowed the word “pervert” that was on the tip of her tongue.

Seeing the girl stop, Shen Yuan felt incredibly uncomfortable.
