- Chapter 12 - Sweet Peach Flavour
It was that sycophant’s coat.
“It’s late, maybe next time.”
He Zhuo walked to the sofa, sat down, picked up his laptop, and started working.
Seeing that he looked tired and had dark circles under his eyes, Aunt Zhang asked with concern, “Second Young Master, you haven’t been in good spirits lately and you look very tired. Would you like to take some medicine before you go to sleep?”
The second young master has suffered from sleep disorders since childhood. He has difficulty falling asleep, and even if he manages to fall asleep with the help of medication, he will wake up in less than three hours, resulting in short and fragmented sleep.
Over the years, he has never slept through the night. He has consulted many doctors, but to no avail. He can only sleep a little longer by relying on sleeping pills.
He also suffered from chronic sleep deprivation, which led to irritability and he often relied on smoking to relieve stress.
“No need, you can go down now.”
“Okay, then take care of yourself and go to bed early when you’re done with your work.”
After giving her instructions, Aunt Zhang left.
The early autumn night was quiet, except for the occasional snores from Xiaodu nearby.
When Aunt Zhang came out again, she saw that the man was already half-lying on the sofa, asleep.
Worried that he would catch a cold, Aunt Zhang went upstairs to get a blanket and was about to cover the man with it when he suddenly opened his eyes.
Aunt Zhang paused, took the blanket, and said, “Excuse me, did I wake you up?”
“No.”
Aunt Zhang smiled and said, “Second Young Master, I saw you sleeping soundly just now, you didn’t have any nightmares.”
Aunt Zhang was originally a maid in the He family, responsible for taking care of He Zhuo’s daily life. Later, when He Zhuo grew up, bought a house and moved out, she also came here with him to take care of his daily needs.
Aunt Zhang always knew his sleep patterns well. Whenever he was fast asleep and his eyebrows were furrowed, she knew he was suffering from nightmares.
But just now I saw him sleeping very well, breathing evenly, with a peaceful sleeping face, and no nightmares bothering him.
He Zhuo sat up straight, about to say something, when he felt an unusual sensation on his hand.
He looked down and realized it was Jiang Youxi’s coat.
Her coat was tucked under him and was already crumpled up, but the sweet peach scent that belonged to her still lingered in his nostrils.
He Zhuo realized something, picked up his coat, brought it to his nose, and tentatively sniffed it.
Sure enough, that’s why.
Ever since he met Jiang Youxi, every time he smelled her sweet peach scent, he would unconsciously relax, and the problem of falling asleep, which was originally difficult to solve, became extremely easy.
He Zhuo was surprised, but more so because he was puzzled as to why he could fall asleep just by smelling the sweet peach scent on Jiang Youxi.
“Second, Second Young Master.”
The man paused, looked up, and met Aunt Zhang’s shocked face.
“What…are you doing?”
Aunt Zhang’s eyes seemed to be looking at a “pervert”.
He Zhuo paused slightly, somewhat awkwardly tossing his coat back onto the sofa, and said, “Contact the purchasing department tomorrow and buy me some things.”
“What is that?”
“Peaches. I’ll buy one of every variety of peaches currently available on the market.”
Aunt Zhang was puzzled: “Second Young Master, there are currently more than two thousand varieties of peaches in China. What do you need so many varieties of peaches for?”
Even if I bought one of each variety, I would still have two thousand.
“It has its uses.”
–
Ever since He Zhuo entrusted Xiao Du to her, Jiang Youxi has set aside an hour every day to go over and cook dog food for Xiao Du, ensuring that Xiao Du eats the freshest and hottest food and drinks every day.
Under Jiang Youxi’s meticulous care, Xiaodu’s physical indicators improved, and he gained two pounds in just half a month.
Xiao Du became increasingly dependent on her, and every time Jiang Youxi left, it would throw a tantrum and beg to stay.
After spending the past two weeks together, Jiang Youxi had come to regard it as her own dog and was very reluctant to part with it when it tried to stay.
“There’s nothing I can do. I have a young boy to raise at home, so I can only stay with you this far. I’ll come see you again tomorrow.” Jiang Youxi patted its head before getting up to leave.
After leaving Yue Lanting, Jiang Youxi went to Hengda Pharmacy to work part-time.
Today is Sunday. Jiang Youxi only works in the morning and will take half a day off in the afternoon to balance work and rest.
Jiang Youxi was busy until noon when she was about to leave work when the store received a expedited delivery order. The address was at the Kuaichi Racetrack, one kilometer away from the pharmacy.
The other party kept calling and urging him to hurry, and Manager Wang repeatedly agreed, promising to deliver it soon.
Store Manager Wang prepared a first-aid kit according to the customer’s needs: “Youxi, are you free now? Could you help deliver this order? I’m too busy to leave here, and I’m afraid that if it takes too long, someone might die.”
Jiang Youxi expressed her understanding: “Okay, you go ahead with your work, I’ll deliver it.”
Luckily, she had an electric scooter, and the distance wasn’t far.
Jiang Youxi took the first aid kit, got on her electric scooter, and headed to her destination.
Upon arriving at her destination, Jiang Youxi rushed into the backstage area of the racetrack with a first-aid kit, only to find a group of men in racing suits gathered there, with bloodstains on the ground.
There were sounds of people calling for ambulances and heated arguments.
The scene was filled with noise.
“Quickly, has anyone made a call? Call an ambulance right now!”
“I called, but this place is quite remote. The last ambulance just left, so another ambulance might not be able to get here soon.”
“Then let’s bandage his wound first to prevent excessive blood loss!”
“I already ordered a first-aid kit from Flash Delivery, why hasn’t it arrived yet?”
Seeing the urgency of the situation, Jiang Youxi squeezed through the crowd and heard a familiar name.
“Captain Li, as you all saw just now, it was He Zhuo and his group who deliberately cut off the car, which caused Lao Nan to suffer such serious injuries!”
A toast?
Jiang Youxi turned her head and saw the man opposite her.
The man sat in a chair, dressed in a blue and white racing suit, his posture lazy and unrestrained, his dark eyes like still water. No matter how others cursed him or how filthy their words were, he remained expressionless throughout.
Someone saw the first aid kit in Jiang Youxi’s hand and asked her if she was using Flash Delivery, urging her to come quickly and treat the injured person’s wounds.
The injured man sat on the ground, blood gushing from his legs, a horrifying sight.
Jiang Youxi looked away, immediately walked over, put down the first aid kit, and half-squatted down to treat his wounds.
Jiang Youxi was focused on treating her wounds, while their argument continued.
Everyone was arguing back and forth, and Jiang Youxi could vaguely make out the gist of it.
The man who knew she was treating her wound was called Lao Nan. They were enemies of He Zhuo’s team, and there must have been some friction that caused Lao Nan to get injured.
“That’s right! If it weren’t for He Zhuo, we wouldn’t be in this situation… Ouch—” Old Nan’s vision blurred with pain. “Damn it, do you even know how to treat a wound? Can you be a little gentler?!”
Jiang Youxi suppressed her anger and patiently explained, “Cleansing the wound will hurt, please bear with it.”
Old Nan groaned and shouted, “Captain Li, you have to stand up for me! He Zhuo is a madman! You saw it last time, he blatantly ran over Captain Zhang with his car. If Captain Zhang hadn’t run fast, he might be ashes by now!”
Jiang Youxi paused.
Team Leader Zhang?
The person who injured Tao Jie’s boyfriend and sent him to the ICU last time.
Are these people in cahoots with that Captain Zhang?
“Hey, you dare bring this up with me again? You really think I’m a pushover just because I haven’t shown my true colors?” Xie Zhao rolled up his sleeves angrily. “Enough nonsense, come out now if you’ve got the guts, let’s have another match!”
Xie Zhao was about to rush over in a huff, but He Zhuo grabbed her.
“Brother Zhuo, these people have gone too far! If it weren’t for them, Lao Pei wouldn’t have been lying in the ICU for half a month! I’ve wanted to get revenge for this for a long time!”
“These beasts?” He Zhuo sneered. “They’re not worthy to be compared to you.”
“Who are you calling a beast?!” Old Nan was furious, not at all like an injured person. “What makes you so arrogant, you little bastard? You were wandering around for so many years, and the He family never even came looking for you. I bet you were just an unwanted bastard, otherwise you wouldn’t have…”
Snap!
Jiang Youxi slapped him across the face.
