- Chapter 3 - I've come to pick up my wife
Two days later.
A cold, indifferent voice echoed on the stairs.
Upon seeing the newcomer, the maid respectfully greeted, “Madam.”
Cheng Xiang, dressed in a well-fitting cheongsam and high heels, walked down the stairs and looked down at the girl sitting lazily at the dining table.
She frowned, looking at the girl’s half-eaten steamed bun with displeasure.
There was a dish of pickled vegetables on the table, with only a few bites left.
“Who brought these things into the villa?”
Cheng Xiang spoke in a questioning tone.
The maid bowed her head. “It’s because the young lady wanted to eat, so…”
“Yes, this is what I want to eat.”
A cool, clear voice suddenly interrupted the servant’s words.
Cheng Xiang squinted at the girl in front of her.
The girl had long, smooth hair casually tied back with a hair tie. She wore a black vest with a white shirt over it, the sleeves of which were loosely rolled up on her arms.
Below that was a pair of faded jeans, with what appeared to be ripped holes at the hem, completely obscuring her long, slender legs.
The weather at the end of July wasn’t too cool; the air was still thick with the heat of the day.
Almost no one would dress this warmly in this kind of weather.
Yu Guiwan slowly chewed the steamed bun in her mouth, then swallowed it. She gently raised her porcelain-white wrist and placed a small bite of pickled vegetables on the nearly finished steamed bun with her chopsticks.
Her eyebrows and eyes were excessively delicate, yet they also had a sickly pallor. Her hands holding the chopsticks were so slender that they looked as if they would break at the slightest touch.
“Can’t I eat these?”
Yu Guiwan glanced up at Cheng Xiang with a faint look in her eyes.
Even though she was sitting down, I inexplicably felt a powerful aura emanating from her, which made me feel inexplicably uneasy.
Cheng Xiang frowned, but chose to ignore the feeling.
“For more than ten years in Yunling Town, I ate this kind of food every day, Mom.”
Yu Guiwan spoke calmly, then took a bite of her steamed bun with the pickled vegetables.
The steamed buns didn’t have much flavor.
The pickled mustard tuber is now only spicy and salty.
She likes spicy food; as long as it’s spicy, no matter what it is, she can manage to eat a couple of bites.
Hearing her words, Cheng Xiang felt as if she had been slapped hard across the face.
She abandoned Yu Guiwan, who was not even five years old, in Yunling Town and then ignored her for more than ten years.
If it weren’t for the Jiang family’s request.
Perhaps she never even remembered that she had a daughter in Yunling Town.
Cheng Xiang’s expression darkened, but she also felt a bit relieved and stopped caring what the other woman ate.
“The Jiang family will come to pick you up soon. As for Jiangling Town, I will send someone to the Wang family.”
She really didn’t want to see her daughter again.
Yu Guiwan finished the last bite of the steamed bun, and just then, there was only one bite of pickled mustard greens left.
The portion size was just right.
After swallowing, she looked up and gave a curt “oh.”
The tone was excessively calm.
“You don’t want to get married?” Cheng Xiang stared at her.
Even if she didn’t want to, she had no choice.
Yu Guiwan shook her head. “No.”
If she could, she would rather stay in Yunling Town for the rest of her life.
Unfortunately… things didn’t go as planned.
“It’s best if it’s not there.”
Cheng Xiang looked away, glanced at the time, and said it was about time. “Anyway, as long as you behave, I’ll find a way to get you into adult education.”
She didn’t want to lose face if people found out that the daughter of the Yu family who married into the Jiang family was a good-for-nothing who hadn’t even gone to university.
Cheng Xiang had given up all hope that her daughter, who grew up in a small county town, could become a socialite from a prominent family.
She was already thankful that at least she could barely satisfy Master Jiang.
Yu Guiwan lowered her eyes and did not respond.
She hates going to class the most.
…
Nine o’clock.
Several cars were parked in front of the Yu family villa right on time.
They were all Maybachs.
Black is both noble and dignified.
Yu Mingsheng and Cheng Xiang went out to greet them personally.
Behind him followed Yu Yunshu, who was dressed in a bright and colorful outfit.
Yu Guiwan followed slowly behind them.
Her features were still exquisite, but her clothes were much plainer compared to Yu Yunshu’s.
The rear door was opened from the outside.
A pair of shiny black leather shoes came into view.
Immediately afterwards, a tall man got out of the car.
He had distinct features, a rare and stunning face, and an imposing presence.
This person…
“Third Master Jiang”.
Yu Mingsheng lowered his head slightly, a look of shock flashing in his eyes.
“Mr. Yu.”
Not his father-in-law.
Jiang Yuhuai’s gaze accurately passed over the three of them and landed on Yu Guiwan at the very back, a hint of tenderness flashing in his eyes.
“I’ve come to pick up my wife.”
That simple sentence left everyone present completely bewildered.
Especially Yu Yunshu.
Her eyes widened slightly, her face filled with disbelief.
She never expected Jiang Yuhuai to be so handsome, nor did she expect him to be so gentle.
At this moment, she was filled with immense regret and wished she could push past Yu Guiwan and go to Jiang Yuhuai’s side.
But when she saw the group of expressionless men in black standing next to Jiang Yuhuai, she hesitated.
When Yu Guiwan saw Jiang Yuhuai appear, her brow twitched.
Only after hearing his words did she raise her head and look past the crowd at the distinguished and extraordinary man.
A hint of surprise flashed in his eyes.
It flashed by in an instant.
So fast that it’s impossible to catch it.
She walked out calmly, took a few steps closer to the man, and then stopped.
Her voice was soft and sweet.
“Third Master Jiang”.
Jiang Yuhuai looked at the girl in front of him, his hands, which were in his pockets, slowly clenched into fists, as if he was restraining something.
His Adam’s apple bobbed as he tried to make his voice sound less cold.
“You don’t need to call me that.”
Yu Guiwan didn’t move, but her eyes seemed to sweep over Yu Mingsheng and the others beside her.
Jiang Yuhuai turned to them, his brow furrowed, his eyes cold. “You have a problem with that?”
Yu Mingsheng quickly lowered his head and replied, “No…no.”
Would they dare to object?
Obviously, they wouldn’t dare.
Cheng Xiang was stunned by this scene and didn’t come to her senses for a moment. She followed her husband’s movements.
Yu Yunshu, standing at the back, had a face full of gloom and resentment.
Jiang Yuhuai didn’t even glance at her, instead turning his gaze to the obedient Yu Guiwan.
“I’ve prepared some gifts for you. We’ll see if you like them when you get home.”
Things can’t be left behind.
But he brought the things over on purpose.
Yu Guiwan lowered her eyes, a hint of confusion flashing in them, but she showed no expression on her face and obediently responded.
Jiang Yuhuai personally opened the back door of the car.
“Get in the car first.”
Yu Guiwan nodded.
After she got in, Jiang Yuhuai closed the car door to block the unfriendly gazes of the Yu family.
He began, “Household registration booklet.”
Yu Mingsheng snapped out of his daze and quickly handed over the file bag.
“Third Master Jiang, here you go.”
Jiang Yuhuai glanced at it but didn’t answer.
Jiang Dong stepped forward and took it.
He opened it, checked the documents inside, and then nodded to Jiang Yuhuai.
The man’s expression was indifferent. “From today onwards, Yu Guiwan is no longer a daughter of the Yu family. I hope you remember that.”
Yu Mingsheng nodded in agreement, “We will remember.”
“Of course, it’s okay if you don’t remember it. I don’t mind personally strengthening your memory.”
This sentence is a warning.
Yu Mingsheng’s heart skipped a beat, and he lowered his head, “Yes.”
