- Chapter 48 - Mila Needs Treatment
Inside the room, a five-layered transmutation magic circle occupied the entire floor, with the magic circles intertwined and the magic runes filling almost every corner.
Mira’s understanding of magic circles was limited to those three pages of “Basic Magic Runes,” and she only knew that a magic circle was a circle with magic runes inside.
Faced with these densely packed magical runes, like pebbles on a riverbank, Mira instantly thought of the “Flesh and Blood False Ceremony” performed by the tribe’s high priest, whose magic circles were just as complex as they are now.
Then, Mira looked out and saw the smooth rock face reflecting light slightly in the candlelight.
The stone wall is covered with overlapping human figures, varying in size and depth, which seem to sway as the candlelight flickers.
The room wasn’t large, but it was crowded with people. Mira saw a huge crowd of people dressed in all sorts of clothes gathered together, and there was a three-tiered candle, as tall as a person, lit up beside her, illuminating her like an angel surrounded by holy light.
Moreover, almost all of them had white eyebrows, white hair, and white coats, holding alchemy notebooks and sketching quills, and were all looking at Mira with eager eyes.
Mira tried to struggle, but found that her limbs and neck were locked in a magic circle and she could not move an inch.
Oh no… This atmosphere, this situation… Am I going to be sacrificed again?
Just now, a court alchemist came to my door, saying he wanted to save me. What’s going on?
I vaguely remember that after that, the court alchemist led me and Ariel to a corner of the capital, and then… nothing happened…
What about Ariel? Is Ariel in danger like I am?
Mira looked around again but didn’t find any trace of Ariel.
Fortunately, Ariel wasn’t here, so she wouldn’t have to be sacrificed by these people from who-knows-where…
I don’t care what happens to me, but I absolutely cannot drag Ariel down with me.
Mila steeled her resolve and closed her eyes.
Come on, you damned people! Ariel was very wary of the people coming in outside, but I insisted on coming along. I can only blame myself for not listening to Ariel!
No one moved. They were too far away to hear each other breathing. After an unknown amount of time, Mira heard a rustling sound of footsteps.
“Don’t you alchemists find it dark?”
That sound!
Mira opened her eyes abruptly and saw that all the remaining candles had been lit, illuminating the surroundings as if it were daytime.
The speaker was a lean old man dressed in a dark robe, whose hunched back revealed the dragon head sealed with golden silk thread on his back.
He held a wooden cane in his hand, the head of which was inlaid with an inconspicuous magic crystal. Apart from that, it was unadorned and very simple.
As soon as the old man appeared, everyone bowed simultaneously and said in unison:
“Lord Gavin.”
Mira recognized the old man; she had seen him speak on the podium at the freshman orientation ceremony.
He…he seems to be the dean of the academy?
Could it be that the headmaster has come to rescue me? That would be wonderful!
Mira twisted her body as hard as she could, hoping to attract the headmaster’s attention and get her released first.
“Gavin, there’s a girl like this in the academy, but you didn’t notice her. It seems your eyesight is failing you.”
Mira witnessed a sudden surge of golden light emanating from the wick of a candle beside her, the flame expanding hundreds of times without trembling in the slightest.
A square-faced man with blond hair tied in a ponytail slowly emerged from the candlelight. His golden and white robes were so dazzling that it was as if the sun had descended.
He lightly tapped the air with his finger, and all the candle flames in the room danced together as he wished. Beneath his calm face, an aura of oppression spread throughout the entire room.
Mira was also disoriented by this oppressive aura, and in an instant, all her emotions seemed to turn into awe towards him.
Gavin stroked the magic crystal on his cane, his voice slightly hoarse:
“Holheim, how is your little girl? I saw her a few days ago, and she was full of fighting spirit.”
The little girl the Dean of the Faculty of Arts was referring to was Karina Tavlin, the granddaughter of the High Priest Holheim Tavlin.
Holheim smiled and said:
“Now that you’re here, why don’t you show yourself?”
“Hahaha… I’m not like you, Holheim, who always attracts so much attention when I appear!”
“Ugh!”
From the stone floor beneath Mira’s feet, which was covered in magical runes, a stream of air rose up, extinguishing all the nearby candles and lifting the hem of Mira’s short skirt.
Holheim shook his head, his sleeves fluttering in the air, and all the extinguished candle flames reignited.
This court high priest had a round head and a round belly. His light pink robe was ill-fitting, not only failing to cover his front but also revealing the fat on the sides of his stomach.
With a look of utter rapt attention, he said softly:
“It’s the same pink as my robe.”
What shade of pink?
Mila’s mind went blank for a moment, but she quickly came to her senses.
Everything in this stone room, except for this pig-like man, is pink…
Do you mean your own panties?
“ah!”
Mira screamed and tried to cover her skirt, but her arms were locked by a magic circle and she couldn’t break free no matter what she did.
“Clang clang clang…”
Three crisp sounds brought the candle flames back to their calm state, caused the third court archmage, Seram, to retract the expression that had disgusted Mira, and drew the attention of all the alchemists.
That was the sound of Gavin tapping the ground with his cane.
Gavin raised his voice and scolded:
“Enough, Seram, you shouldn’t offend this little girl!”
Then, Gavin looked at Mila and bowed slightly in apology.
“Child, I’m sorry that Seram brought you bad memories.”
“Also, please rest assured that apart from the three of us, these are all alchemists invited by Her Majesty the Queen from various academies, alchemist guilds, and other kingdoms throughout the country.”
“Our only goal is to prevent you from experiencing that kind of pain again.”
Holheim stepped forward, a hint of kindness creeping onto his previously arrogant face:
“Child, there are some things that you and your friends cannot know yet. What I can tell you is that the entire kingdom and the entire royal family have wronged you, so His Majesty the King has ordered us to use all our strength to save you.”
“ah……”
Mira opened her mouth, blinked, and suddenly looked a little confused.
Gavin’s cane struck the ground again:
“Let’s begin.”
“Child, we will soon be working through all the alchemical arrays within your body. Because we don’t have much more information about the ‘Flesh and Blood False Codex,’ these experienced alchemists will have to do it all at once. This might remind you of the time your entire body was dismantled on the day of the ritual…”
“I’m fine.”
Mira smiled, then, her eyes fixed in one direction, she answered the headmaster’s question with a smile:
“As long as Ariel is with me, I have nothing to fear.”
Gavin nodded in satisfaction:
“Good boy, your courage is admirable.”
Meanwhile, in another room, Ariel was watching everything in the room through a magical projection.
The moment Ariel’s eyes met Mira’s, she could no longer hold back her tears.
In the darkness, I realized that my bond with Mira had reached an unbreakable point.
Meanwhile, Queen Linda sat in another chair in the room, observing everything.
