- Chapter 14 - Expulsion Notice and the Alliance for Diligent Study
Ariel’s voice mingled with the splashing water as she washed dishes in the kitchen:
“Final exams are indeed approaching, it’s time to start studying.”
“That’s right!”
Mira sat on the sofa, holding a book titled “Basic Magic Rune Science” and reading it intently.
Ariel glanced to the side and saw Mira turning the page from time to time, looking very focused.
I also want to learn, but these kinds of knowledge are useless if you just read the textbook.
The textbooks distributed by the college are essentially for the benefit of teachers; they only serve to inform students what the teacher will be teaching next.
As for the specific knowledge, you can only learn it by listening to the teacher’s explanation in class. Taking notes is also essential for reviewing after class.
However, since joining the Hero Squad at the beginning of last semester, I’ve spent most of my time in dungeons. I’ve missed so many classes that my notes are incomplete.
As for Mira…
Ariel looked at her again.
Mira was already leaning back in her chair like a sleeping kitten, with “Basic Magic Runes” in front of her, its cover upside down.
Mira also enjoyed a restful sleep during her theory classes. Her notes weren’t even fully written.
I wanted to borrow notes to review, but found that I couldn’t.
Some students are not familiar with the witch at all, and some are even hostile towards her, so they will not lend her their services rashly.
Meanwhile, the witches who ranked high in the grade formed a small group, feeling ashamed that they and Mira consistently ranked at the bottom in their quizzes, disgracing the witches, so they refused to lend her anything.
I still can’t understand it. If they were willing to lend us the money, Mira and I wouldn’t be ranked last or second to last…
Ouch!
Mira suddenly woke up, seemingly sensing Ariel’s gaze.
Looking at Ariel, Mira quickly came up with an excuse to laugh it off:
“Ariel, I’ve been pondering a question: since triangles are the most stable shape, why are magic circles always circular instead of triangular?”
Although Mira was trying her best to appear serious, Ariel put her hand to her mouth and chuckled softly a few times:
“Because the magic circle is for casting magic, not for stabilizing it.”
“The magic circle needs to hold as many spells as possible. And with the same amount of magic power, a circle can hold more spells than a triangle… Do you understand, Mira?”
Mira was clearly lost in thought, only snapping back to reality when Ariel called her name.
“Oh? Oh right, I was just wondering, if triangles are more stable, why aren’t human organs triangular?”
Mira shook her head and scratched her own fluffy hair:
“For example, the head…”
After putting the plate back in the cupboard, Ariel wiped her hands and said with a smile:
“Then your head won’t be pointed, and it will feel prickly to touch. Who will want to touch your head then?”
Upon hearing this, Mira seemed to be stung and quickly withdrew her hand from her head.
“Oh yeah… then it’s better this way…”
After thinking for a moment, Mira suddenly said softly:
“If… I mean if, a part of a person’s body doesn’t belong to them, then they are still the same person…”
A rapid knocking at the door interrupted Mila’s words.
Ariel opened the door, and outside stood two executive officers in student council uniforms, who were responsible for conveying and carrying out orders from the college and the student council.
“Ariel. After discussion, the academy has decided that if you do not rank in the top three of your grade at the end of this semester, you will be expelled. This is the notification letter.”
Then they slipped a piece of parchment into Ariel’s hand and turned to leave.
“What, what!”
Hearing the commotion outside, Mira didn’t hesitate to drop “Basic Magic Runes” and run to Arivil, standing on tiptoe to examine the contents of the parchment together:
“Notice from the Academic Affairs Office and Student Union”
To: Alyssa Vivier
Based on a comprehensive evaluation, your grades last semester have reached the academic threshold. Therefore, you are hereby granted additional assessment under the following conditions:
You must rank in the top three of your grade in the final evaluation for this semester.
If this is not achieved, the college will cancel your student status in accordance with regulations.
This notice is final.
Dean: Gavin Winston
Student Union Joint Signature: Vera Sofia
The order was issued on the third day of the second week of Frost Moon.
“What does this mean! What kind of school rule is this?!”
Mira stormed back to the sofa and sat down, as if the whole thing had happened to her.
“I was last in my grade and I wasn’t even expelled, so why are you being targeted, Alyssa?!”
Ariel knew perfectly well what was going on, and touched the gold-embossed signature on the parchment.
Vera Sofia.
A fourth-year student at Witch Academy, and the current student council president.
She also has another identity: together with Brian, Karina, and Sharina, she forms the current Hero Squad.
And in one corner of the parchment was a line of hastily written small characters:
“Good luck to you, you useless witch.”
The handwriting matches Vera’s signature.
In other words, this dismissal order is also related to his former teammates…
Ariel chuckled to herself.
Why keep pursuing them when they’ve already left the team?
They really know how to make things difficult for themselves…
Half of the semester has passed, and there is still a month left until the final exams.
In the last quiz, I was still second to last in the grade.
Does that mean I have to evolve into the top three in my grade within just one month?
interesting.
Ariel smiled as she held the parchment in her hand, then burned it to ashes with her magic.
Amidst the swirling black debris, Mira saw that Ariel’s expression had never been so “kind”:
“This is a trap set up by my former teammates. The student council president alone is not qualified to issue an expulsion order.”
After a pause, the word “useless” echoed in Alyssa’s ears again, the word she heard most often on the day she left the team.
“It must have been Karina who used the power of the Tafflin family to threaten the academy.”
“That’s terrible!”
Mira clenched her fist:
“Should I go beat her up?”
Ariel sat on the sofa, casually picked up Mira’s “Basic Magic Rune Science” that she had put down, and flipped through a few pages, her mind obviously not on it.
“Who should we beat up? The student council president or the Tafflin family’s heiress?”
“But……”
Mira knew that she and Ariel both came from ordinary families, and that offending someone like that would definitely make their lives difficult in the future.
“It’s alright, Mila.”
Ariel patted Mira’s head and gently advised her:
“So what if we’re in the top three of the grade? Mila, let’s work together and get that result at the end of the semester, so they won’t have anything to say!”
Mira saw that Ariel seemed to be burning with a fire, her calm eyes now filled with complex emotions.
Ariel always works hard, doesn’t she?
To keep up with the hero team, she would lock herself in her room every night to study various spells and methods to break through the magic power limit.
Sometimes she was overjoyed, and sometimes she pounded the table in frustration.
Regardless of the outcome, Ariel is a motivated and ambitious person.
This time it should be successful, so I’ll spend some time with her…
Mira nodded and gently took Ariel’s hand:
“Yes, Ariel, let’s work together, form a study alliance, and amaze everyone at the end of the semester!”
