- Chapter 32 - A Corpse Hidden in the Wall (Part 2)
“I’ve seen this before when I was on a mission at the border. It looks very similar, so I don’t think it’s a human bone.”
Gu Yezhou continued, “It looks more like an animal’s fangs.”
“Yes, if I’m not mistaken, this should be a wild boar.” Sang Ning stared intently at the spot where the homeless man had left at the stairwell. “But there aren’t even any mountains near Yancheng, so how could there be wild boars?”
“It’s alright, let’s talk about it when we get back. Let’s check the body inside the wall first.” Gu Yezhou patted Sang Ning on the shoulder.
Sang Ning followed the gaze and felt a headache coming on when she saw the skull.
“It’s very difficult to find out the identity of the dead inside the wall.”
If the homeless man is unwilling to speak.
Judging from his crazy behavior just now, it’s probably unlikely he’ll say anything.
“I’ll make a phone call.” When he saw the skull being slowly pried off the wall by the police officers, Gu Yezhou had no choice but to swallow his pride and ask for the person back.
On the other end of the phone, the provincial department leader started cursing at Gu Yezhou.
The good mentality that I had cultivated over the years completely collapsed in front of that brat Gu Yezhou.
When Gu Yezhou returned after making the call, Sang Ning had already instructed the officers to be quiet.
I was afraid the bones would break.
Unfortunately, these bones have been sealed in cement for years, and they are covered in cement, so processing them would be a huge undertaking.
“Thanks a lot.”
Sang Ning turned to look at Gu Yezhou and waved her hand, “It’s my duty.”
Back at the police station, Gu Yao was still in shock from what had happened.
Sang Ning had no time to care about Gu Yao’s condition; instead, she and Lu Lin stood beside the skeleton that had been dug out of the cement.
“This…is incomplete.” Lu Lin hissed, gesturing with his fingers. “This doesn’t tell how long she’s been dead. How can we verify it?”
Sang Ning rolled her eyes. “You’re a forensic pathologist. Ask another forensic pathologist how to conduct the examination.”
Lu Lin smiled awkwardly, “I’ve never encountered this before, Lao Sang. I know you’re very strong, and I have high hopes for you.”
As he spoke, he tried to sneak away.
Sang Ning glanced at the still-shaken Gu Yao and sighed, “There are only three of us here. If you don’t help me, what can I expect from this child?”
“Okay, okay, I’ll help you. Remember to treat me to your cooking next time.” Lu Lin pouted.
“Eat, eat, all you ever think about is eating,” Sang Ning said, giving him a disgruntled look.
Lu Lin put on his protective suit and gloves, then asked, “What can I do for you?”
“Classify the remains and find the missing pieces,” Sang Ning said, taking the wild boar’s upper canine tooth from the evidence bag.
“What is this?” Lu Lin glanced at it. “This suspect is really something. He managed to snatch it from an animal, and he even bought it from Yiwu Small Commodities Market? Is that true?”
“It really is. It’s a wild boar’s tusk. It’s curved, sharp, and only 8 centimeters long. It looks like it’s from a small wild boar.” Sang Ning cleaned the congealed blood on it. “I wonder whose blood this is.”
“Is it her?” Lu Lin pointed to the landlady’s corpse on the autopsy table next to him.
Sang Ning shook her head. “I checked her at the scene, and she had no external injuries.”
Lu Lin sighed, “How pitiful, to encounter something like this just when collecting rent.”
Sang Ning glanced at the landlady’s corpse, a hint of sympathy in her eyes.
The landlord, Yao Xiuying, wasn’t exactly a good person, but she wasn’t a bad person either.
If she hadn’t been willing to rent out the Ping An Apartment at a low price, Sang Ning really wouldn’t have been able to find such a quiet living environment.
“Let me make a note of this first.” With that, Sang Ning turned on the recording equipment, his face serious. “Deceased: Yao Xiuying, female…”
Since the cause of death was a fall, she carefully examined all parts of the body. There were signs of struggle on the wrists and a small amount of skin tissue under the fingernails. After confirming that the tissue belonged to the homeless man, she wrote an examination report.
The report had just been printed out when people arrived at the forensic lab.
“Forensic Doctor Sang, the deceased’s family has arrived and wants to see you.”
See her?
Sang Ning was puzzled.
The deceased’s family should be coming to claim the body.
Before leaving the dissection room, she instructed Lu Lin: “You don’t need to clean off the cement on top for now. Organize the bones first.”
“Don’t worry about what I do,” Lu Lin called out to Sang Ning’s retreating figure.
As soon as Sang Ning reached the corner of the stairs, she heard a loud wailing sound, which sounded like that of a middle-aged man.
The man looked to be in his forties, younger than the landlady, but… could he be her son?
“Forensic Doctor Sang, you’ve finally arrived. Please try to persuade them.”
Sanning: “?”
When the man saw Sang Ning, he immediately knelt on the ground, and a young couple nearby rushed forward to help him up.
“Officer Sang, you live in Ping An Apartment, and you and Xiuying are usually very close. You must find the murderer who killed her and avenge her!”
Best relationship?
When did she become on good terms with her landlady?
Sang Ning recalled that once when she was not in Yancheng, her landlady happened to be collecting rent. Since she preferred to accept cash, bank transfers were not an option.
After she finished calling back from the barrage of phone calls, she unleashed a torrent of abuse: “Are you still going to rent it or not? If not, get out!”
Sang Ning said she would pay the rent when she got back.
As a result, the landlady was unhappy and said that if the time was overdue, she would have to pay an extra day’s rent, at fifty yuan a day, just like interest on a loan.
The rent for this Ping An Apartment is only 300 yuan a month, which is equivalent to 10 yuan a day.
Fining someone fifty yuan for each day of delay is nothing short of extortion.
That day, after Sang Ning told the other party that she was a police officer, the landlady quickly smiled and said it was all a misunderstanding, and that she could pay the rent when she had time.
She looked at the man kneeling on the ground with a headache, and the police officers rushed forward to pull him up.
“Sir, please stand up and speak,” the police officer beside him urged.
Sang Ning coldly replied, “The police will definitely bring the murderer to justice. As for revenge, the law will judge.”
“How dare you speak like that, policeman! My dad begged you like this, and this is your attitude?” The young man beside him pointed angrily at Sang Ning.
“Calm down, everyone. Let’s talk things out. This is our bureau’s forensic doctor,” the officer introduced.
Upon hearing that she was a forensic doctor, the three of them immediately moved away from Sang Ning.
Even the man who had been kneeling on the ground took a few steps back.
They looked at each other in bewilderment.
Sang Ning suddenly smiled, “I am indeed a forensic doctor. If you gentlemen just want me to help you find the real culprit, you should go to the criminal investigation team.”
“What are you looking for, the criminal investigation team? We’re here to find you.” The young man said arrogantly, “I lived in my mother’s house, and now that my mother is in trouble, I ask you, as a policeman, why did my mother call you even on her deathbed!”
Before coming to find Sang Ning, the police had already handed over Yao Xiuying’s cell phone.
I don’t know what these people were thinking. Their first question wasn’t about who the murderer was, but rather, “Did my mother make a will?”
