- Chapter 31 - A Corpse Hidden in the Wall (Part 1)
Gu Yao exclaimed in shock, “What a pervert! Why are you hiding so many bones in your body?!”
“Take the person back, and seal off the entire fourth floor.” Gu Yezhou said coldly, “Have you notified the deceased’s family?”
Xiao Zhang immediately said, “I’ll go and inform them right now.”
Then, all the doors on the fourth floor were knocked on. After going around the room, they found that only this one homeless man lived on the fourth floor, and there was no one else.
The homeless man kept muttering, “No money, I have no money, hehehe, it’s all mine, all the pretty bones are mine.”
Gu Yao got goosebumps all over listening to this and whispered in Sang Ning’s ear, “Sister Ning, is this homeless man mentally ill?”
Sang Ning didn’t say anything; she followed Gu Yezhou into the homeless man’s home.
The layout of the fourth floor is almost identical to that of the second floor, and you can see straight to the end. However, the homeless man’s home seems to stretch on forever.
Most of them were stuffed with cardboard, and there were also many neatly arranged plastic bottles, the water and drinks inside having been rinsed out.
When the homeless man saw the police officers barging into his home, he could only chuckle foolishly, saying, “This is my home, this is my home.”
It didn’t sound like a rejection, nor did it sound like a welcome.
“Where did these bones come from?” Gu Yezhou asked sternly.
The homeless man, looking rather simple-minded, kept repeating, “My home, this is my home.”
Sang Ning glanced at the bones on the ground, then squatted down and picked them up.
When the homeless man saw the bone in Sang Ning’s hand, the憨憨 smile on his face vanished. He rushed towards Sang Ning like a madman, trying to snatch the bone away, shouting, “Mine! This is mine!”
However, the police officers nearby quickly subdued him and pinned him to the ground.
The homeless man stared bloodshot at the bone in Sang Ning’s hand.
Sang Ning picked up the other collarbone that had fallen off him and examined it.
There was still some lime residue at the bend of the collarbone. I rubbed it with my gloved fingers, but the lime didn’t fall off. On the contrary, it seemed to have grown there.
Her gaze fell on the walls inside the room. Before she could speak, she heard Gu Yezhou say to the police officer beside him, “Move all the bottles, jars, and cardboard boxes out of the room.”
The homeless man panicked, “No! That’s mine, it’s mine, you can’t take it away!”
Soon, the police officers entered the house and carried the cardboard boxes out, looking surprised as they did so.
“Captain Gu, the cardboard here is all new and clean.”
On the cardboard boxes of various sizes, some had shipping labels pasted on them, while others were smooth and spotless.
Upon hearing this, Gu Yao peeked inside and said, “It really is true, even the water bottles are clean.”
After everything inside had been cleared out, Gu Yezhou stepped inside.
After the stacks of cardboard reaching the ceiling were cleared away, a wall covered in posters was revealed.
The poster had become old, and one yellowed corner was curling up because the cardboard was no longer pressing it down.
Gu Yezhou stepped forward and tore the poster down, revealing a cement-colored area that looked out of place against the white wall next to it.
“The body should be inside the wall,” Sang Ning said in a deep voice.
Gu Yezhou had the wall smashed open.
Just as a police officer was about to smash the center of the hole with a hammer, Sang Ning shouted to stop him, and a homeless man who was being pinned down nearby also shouted.
“Don’t smash it in the center.”
“Don’t smash it! You can’t smash it!”
The two voices mingled together, and Gu Yezhou’s cold gaze fell on the homeless man.
“Why can’t we smash it? Did you hide the body inside?”
The homeless man’s eyes flickered, then he started chuckling foolishly again, “This is my house, this is my house, you can’t smash it.”
The police officers wouldn’t listen to him. Several of them stood by the wall and started smashing the wall from the edge towards the center.
After only a few light taps, a bone fell down the cement.
“My bones! Those are my bones!” The homeless man tried to rush in, his eyes red with anxiety. “You can’t touch my bones!”
“Tell me, who is this person!” Xiao Zhang slapped the homeless man on the back of the head.
Even though the force wasn’t strong, the homeless man instantly passed out.
Xiao Zhang was taken aback, then rolled up his sleeves. “Hey! Let me tell you, don’t try to scam me.”
“Since he’s unwilling to say anything, let’s take him back first.”
Gu Yezhou turned his back and looked at the gradually clear human silhouette on the wall.
Cement clung to the bones, and with each strike, it crumbled off.
As Sang Ning was about to walk into the house, she brushed past the homeless man.
The homeless man suddenly opened his eyes, and a sharp bone hidden in his sleeve stabbed towards Sang Ning.
Gu Yao, who had been watching from the sidelines, wanted to speak up to warn others, but the words wouldn’t come out.
She stared wide-eyed at Sang Ning’s retreating figure.
Before Xiao Zhang could say anything more, he saw that Sang Ning’s hand, clad in white plastic gloves, had firmly grasped the homeless man’s wrist, and a sharp bone in his hand was stained with a dark red blood.
At the same time, Gu Yezhou appeared beside the homeless man without anyone noticing. Before the two police officers who were holding the homeless man back could react, the homeless man was kicked to the ground with a heavy kick.
Gu Yezhou pulled Sang Ning behind him, “Are you alright?”
Sang Ning gently shook her head.
The homeless man collapsed at Gu Yao’s feet. Gu Yao looked at the bloody bones and was so frightened that she couldn’t move.
“You’ve got some nerve! How dare you commit violence in front of the police!” Xiao Zhang rolled up his sleeves, ready to punch the homeless man.
The homeless man grabbed Gu Yao’s ankle. He had been kicked in the waist by Gu Yezhou and was in so much pain that he couldn’t stand up. But when he looked at Gu Yao’s ankle, his eyes lit up. “Bone, my bone, such beautiful bone!”
Gu Yao could feel her ankle being rubbed by a rough, large hand.
“What are you standing there for?” Xiao Zhang stepped forward, kicked the homeless man’s hand away, pulled Gu Yao aside, and complained, “No wonder the chief won’t let you go out on duty. With your cowardice, you’ll only cause us trouble.”
If the homeless man hadn’t been unable to stand, Gu Yao would already be his hostage.
Gu Yezhou breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing this. He had held back a bit of his strength just now, otherwise he might have crippled the person, which would have made interrogation much more difficult.
“My bones, my bones.” The homeless man was half-dragged away by the police officers, his eyes still fixed on Gu Yao’s feet with lingering affection.
The bloody bone in his hand flew off from Gu Yezhou’s kick and fell to the ground.
Sang Ning stepped forward and picked up the bone, looking at it from left to right, her brows furrowing.
“These bones don’t look like human bones,” Gu Yezhou said.
Sang Ning looked at him in surprise, “You know that too?”
