- Chapter 26 - Ningning, Do You Like Money?
“Okay, I understand.”
Sang Ning didn’t want to get entangled with Lin Zehui any further, so she directly asked the two police officers stationed at the door to take Lin Zehui to make a statement.
“Ningning, are you really not going to consider me?” Lin Zehui started shouting again.
Sang Ning said coldly, “If you know something but don’t report it, and interfere with the investigators, you will be held legally responsible. Of course, you can call your lawyer, Jin.”
However, this lawyer, Mr. Jin, came to the police station today not to defend Lin Zehui, but to defend Lin Zedong.
When Lin Zehui came to the police station to bail him out yesterday, Lin Zedong already had a full understanding of this lawyer.
Just after Lin Zehui was taken away by the police, Attorney Jin rushed to the police station. As soon as he entered the lobby, he saw Sang Ning standing on one side of the corridor.
At the same time, Sang Ning also saw Attorney Jin. Her lips twitched. It was just as she thought, “Speak of the devil, and he appears.”
“Forensic Doctor Sang, we meet again,” Attorney Jin greeted first.
Before Sang Ning could even greet the other person, she heard Lin Zehui shout, “Ningning, do you like money?”
Faced with this sudden question, Sang Ning had nothing to say.
No one in this world dislikes money, right?
Attorney Jin followed the gaze and saw only Lin Zehui’s back and his head held high, saying, “Divorce that bastard, marry me, and I’ll give you the entire Lin Group.”
Hearing this made Sang Ning’s brow twitch.
Gu Yezhou, known as the Wild Man, happened to come out of the detention cell next to him. His face was tense and his eyes were cold.
Sang Ning looked at Gu Yezhou with a puzzled expression, only to hear him say, “I learned some facts from Li Xiaoqiang. He suspects that the person who appeared at Shi Li’s house that night was Lin Zehui, because Lin Zehui was in room 304 yesterday.”
Sang Ning chuckled and said, “Lin Zehui just told me about what happened last night. I’ll have someone take his statement again. Or should I repeat it to you?”
Gu Yezhou nodded.
The two spoke slowly and deliberately, completely forgetting that Attorney Jin had come today for Lin Zedong.
Attorney Jin awkwardly adjusted his glasses. “This new criminal investigation captain is really something else.”
He is a lawyer who specializes in criminal cases.
Of course, they also often side with the criminals.
There’s no way around it; the criminal is his client, and reducing the criminal’s sentence would indeed be morally reprehensible.
But he’s gotten used to it.
Attorney Kim followed another police officer.
When Sang Ning and Gu Yezhou arrived at the technical squadron, they had already recounted everything Lin Zehui had said.
“You little rascal, why did you come so quickly? The results aren’t out yet, wait a little longer.”
An hour had passed, and Old Chen was covered in sweat, while the other technicians were equally busy and overwhelmed.
“Okay, we’ll wait,” Gu Yezhou said.
Upon hearing this, Old Chen looked up. “Captain Gu, are you here to urge this old man to give us the results too?”
“I heard you made a new discovery, so I came to take a look.” Gu Yezhou looked relaxed, as if he already had all the evidence.
Sang Ning was somewhat uneasy.
It wasn’t until Old Chen said, “The blood on this is completely identical to Lin Zehui’s… 8 of the STR loci are exactly the same. This means the murderer could be Lin Zehui, but it could also be his brother Lin Zedong.”
“Easy. Continue to investigate where the Lin brothers, Zedong and Zehui, went on the nights of the 9th and 10th.” Gu Yezhou breathed a sigh of relief and picked up his phone to give the orders.
Sang Ning interrupted, “No need. On the 10th, Lin Zehui is with a woman named Xiaoyue. Just find her, or go to her home.”
Gu Yezhou paused as he dialed the number, recalling the words he heard when he first met Sang Ning: “Fine, fine, you can have this rotten cucumber, I don’t want it.”
He smiled and said, “Okay, I’ll arrange for someone to go.”
In just half an hour, the woman named Xiaoyue was brought over.
The claims of being sick and hospitalized are all lies.
While Lin Zehui was away from the hospital, the woman went home and busied herself packing her luggage, looking like she was about to embark on a long journey.
“Captain Gu, this woman ran away as soon as she saw us. She must have done something wrong.”
Gu Yezhou looked down at the woman named Xiaoyue and said coldly, “Where were you on the nights of the 9th and 10th?”
Xiaoyue said nervously, “I’m with Lin Zehui.”
Gu Yezhou: “Besides Lin Zehui, who else can testify?”
Xiaoyue trembled as she took out her phone, her eyes filled with amazement as she looked at Gu Yezhou, her cheeks flushing. “My home security camera.”
Gu Yezhou glanced at the surveillance footage and handed it to the police officer next to him, saying, “Take it to the technical department for testing.”
His gaze fell on Xiaoyue again. “Why are you running? Where are you planning to go again? Where are you packing your bags?”
Xiaoyue was only placed in the consultation room; not being put in the interrogation room was already the greatest leniency shown to her.
She trembled with fear. Sang Ning, who was standing to the side, smirked. With that kind of guts, she still wanted to be a mistress.
No, she’s the one who was cheated on; she’s Lin Zehui’s white moonlight.
Lin Zehui’s judgment isn’t very good either.
As Sang Ning thought this, her gaze fell on Gu Yezhou again.
“I…I just want to go out for a walk…can’t I even do that?” Xiaoyue looked at Gu Yezhou cautiously.
Gu Yezhou had little patience. He said sternly, “Tell the truth.”
Xiaoyue couldn’t possibly withstand a seasoned detective like Gu Yezhou; he’d probably seen more criminals than she’d watched any crime dramas.
“I took Lin Zedong’s money and agreed to let him harass Lin Zehui and prevent Lin Zehui from marrying Sang Ning. It’s that simple.”
Xiaoyue closed her eyes, and two clear tears fell. She choked out, “I took advantage of Lin Zehui’s sympathy for me, bribed the doctor, and forged medical records, just to keep him by my side. Once the 10th is over, he will never have anything to do with that Sang Ning again.”
Sang Ning never expected that she would be the one being overheard.
She suddenly noticed that Xiaoyue’s gaze towards Gu Yezhou was strange.
It wasn’t like looking at a policeman, but rather… like looking at an old friend I’ve admired for a long time.
It’s that feeling of finally meeting someone but not daring to act too familiar with them, that hidden flutter in your heart.
Xiaoyue placed her hands on the table, just like a student in class, with her arms crossed and her hands gripping her arms tightly, her fingertips turning white.
Seeing that the man in front of her did not speak, she tentatively asked Gu Yezhou, “Do you… still recognize me?”
Xiaoyue’s face was still covered in pale, sickly makeup. She rubbed her face, trying to get closer to Gu Yezhou.
Gu Yezhou glanced at her coldly, “I don’t know her.”
Xiaoyue deflated and murmured, “That’s right, so much time has passed, how could you possibly still remember me?”
After Xiaoyue confirmed it, the bloodstains on the socks and the torn threads matched Lin Zedong perfectly.
