- Chapter 25 - Those Beautiful Memories
He recalled how Sang Ning looked when they first met at the matchmaking event:
At that very first glance, he ordered an investigation into Sang Ning’s background.
She was very ordinary, yet also tragic, which aroused his protective instincts towards her.
“Being pretty doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have a lot of suitors.” Sang Ning tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, a hint of playfulness in her voice.
“Yeah, if you’re too pretty, they’ll think you don’t need a boyfriend at all, right?”
In fact, Sang Ning was very unhappy with Lin Zehui calling her “sister” all the time.
But what could she do? At this matchmaking event, many of the people there were older.
She was probably the youngest person to attend this matchmaking event.
At that time, Sang Ning simply smiled at Lin Zehui.
Lin Zehui, however, was the one who persisted, saying, “How about you take a look at me? This is my business card.”
Sang Ning raised an eyebrow. “You carry business cards with you when you go on a blind date?”
That business card was one that Lin Zehui used to use to pick up girls.
Sang Ning didn’t suspect anything. Looking at the company and position listed, she asked, “How about I introduce myself?”
When Sang Ning revealed her profession, Lin Zehui did not show any surprise.
Because he had already received Sang Ning’s background information, “It’s pretty good, this job is actually quite respectable.”
A genuine smile appeared on Sang Ning’s face. At that moment, Lin Zehui felt that Sang Ning was very different.
“However, I’m also in high demand, so why don’t we give it a try first?”
At that moment, Lin Zehui was genuinely moved. He tried to ease his tension by speaking in a joking tone.
The moment Sang Ning nodded in agreement, he felt like he was about to fly, light as a feather. It was the happiest day of his life.
“However, if I find out you’re two-timing me, I will break up with you without hesitation and marry someone else.”
Lin Zehui’s eyes were full of laughter. “Others? Could it be that you’re going to find someone else when you’re talking to me?”
Sang Ning shook her head. “Of course not.”
Lin Zehui asked in confusion, “Then… what does that mean?”
He didn’t understand.
Sang Ning smiled mysteriously, turned and walked towards the exit of the venue, leaving behind a dashing figure, waving and saying, “Just find someone and get married.”
At that time, Lin Zehui took it as a joke from the girl.
He watched as Sang Ning stopped and stood at the door, showing no intention of coming in, and said with a wry smile, “Yesterday, when I said I was going to Ping An Apartment to find you, I meant it.”
Sang Ning remained silent, waiting for Lin Zehui to say the next sentence.
“I knocked on the door when I was on the second floor, but you weren’t home then, so I sent a message to Li Xiaoqiang. You should have seen the content of the text message.”
Lin Zedong looked at Sang Ning’s retreating figure and said urgently, “The third floor, it’s not my idea to go, it’s my brother who made me go.”
Upon hearing this, Sang Ning stiffened, then turned around and stared at Lin Zehui, his face showing nothing but anxiety.
That anxious look vanished completely when Sang Ning walked into the lounge, sat down, and calmly listened to his account of last night’s events.
“Why didn’t you say so yesterday?” Sang Ning stared into his eyes, as if trying to see something in them.
Lin Zehui said frankly, “In my brother’s eyes, I can live a life of debauchery, but I cannot do anything that damages the image of the Lin Group.”
Sang Ning: “And then?”
“I know he has been arrested and is in the interrogation room. His personal secretary has also contacted me. From now on, the Lin Group will fall into my hands. Of course, my parents don’t know about this yet.”
Lin Zehui took a sip of the cold boiled water on the table, frowned slightly, and muttered, “This water, is it tap water that’s been boiled? Why does it taste so strange?”
Sang Ning said impatiently, “Either you go to the interrogation room to talk, or you can make things clear right here.”
Over the next half hour, Lin Zehui would say a few words and then drink some water, gradually finishing all the water in the disposable cup.
He was initially complaining about the taste of boiled tap water, but the more he drank, the more intoxicated he became.
“Could you pour me another glass? My brother’s lawyer should be arriving soon.” Lin Zehui handed the glass to Sang Ning.
Sang Ning took the glass, poured him a drink, and leaned against the table to ask, “You mean, Lin Zedong told you that my stolen items were on the third floor, so you want to go up and take a look?”
“I have no reason to lie to you, and I did see a lot of photos of you on the third floor. I didn’t dare to touch them because room 204 was cordoned off.”
Lin Zehui was very cautious about this and didn’t touch anything on site.
Instead, he sent a message to Li Xiaoqiang.
Because he knew that the entire third floor belonged to Li Xiaoqiang, and the rent was paid with the money Lin Zehui had given him back then, in order to better track Sang Ning’s every move.
·
Last night, Li Xiaoqiang happened to be in the secret room on the third floor. He hid there for a whole day and night and didn’t dare to come out.
Until I received a text message from Lin Zehui.
He was startled by the scene before him as he stepped out of the bathroom. He was wearing a transparent protective suit from head to toe. When he saw the mess, he pointed at Lin Zehui and stared wide-eyed, “You…you…how did you bring all of Shi Li’s things up here?”
Lin Zehui stood in the corridor, staring at the open door, his eyes filled with confusion.
“I didn’t move. You’ve been in the apartment the whole time?”
Li Xiaoqiang nodded timidly.
“Does Shi Li have designs on Sang Ning?” Lin Zehui asked coldly.
Li Xiaoqiang was shocked, “You…how did you know?”
Lin Zehui clenched his fists, stepped forward and grabbed Li Xiaoqiang by the collar. “How would I know? If no one told me, were you not planning to say anything?”
“I… I only found out recently. I never expected Shi Li to be such a scoundrel… But, he…”
In the darkness, Lin Zehui couldn’t see the expression on Li Xiaoqiang’s face. He simply let go of him and pushed him out.
“Go downstairs and bring me everything Shi Li stole.”
At the time, Lin Zehui had no idea what Shi Li had stolen.
He kept thinking about what Lin Zedong had said when he called him:
“Going to Ping An Apartment so late? Ningning should already be asleep, don’t go.”
“No, she got a marriage certificate with another man. She’s a police officer, so the certificate must be real. I have to find out who that man is,” Lin Zehui said, unwilling to give up.
After a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, Lin Zedong said, “I went to Ping An Apartment before, I took care of some things there. Her neighbor next door, is he a man?”
Lin Zehui thought for a moment, “Yes, brother, you mean… that man was just a random guy Sang Ning picked up?”
“Probably, but I’m not sure. You can go to the third floor and check; he might have Ningning’s photos there. I’m not sure if they’re drawings or photographs.” Lin Zedong hung up the phone after saying that, not giving Lin Zehui a chance to ask any questions.
Lin Zehui was furious and didn’t care how Lin Zedong found out about this.
Seeing Li Xiaoqiang’s furtive figure, she grabbed him and said, “Which way are you going? This staircase is closer.”
Li Xiaoqiang said with difficulty, “But… there are surveillance cameras in front of Sang Ning’s house. We can only avoid being caught on camera if we walk around them.”
“What are you afraid of? You haven’t done anything wrong,” Lin Zedong said angrily in a low voice.
But unfortunately, Li Xiaoqiang did something wrong.
He stammered, too afraid to speak, his legs feeling like they were made of lead, making it impossible for him to walk.
“Hurry up and go! Shi Li’s door is open, and there’s a police tape cordon around it. Be careful when you go in.”
Upon hearing this, Li Xiaoqiang’s eyes widened. “The police came?”
Lin Zehui had no patience and kicked the man.
Li Xiaoqiang stumbled and ran downstairs, forgetting about the security camera at Sang Ning’s door.
He felt uneasy. Since the police had already come, there should be nothing to worry about.
Later, it was about how Gu Yezhou beat him to a pulp.
