- Chapter 10 - If the price of being smart is losing friends, then I'd rather be an idiot.
“That’s not a nebula, it’s powdery scales.”
“Scales? You mean… those nebula-like things outside the window are insects…”
“It’s not an ordinary insect, it’s a real cricket. This one is very large; it could easily swallow a train whole.”
“You…you’re kidding, right?”
“Today I am intellectual, and I don’t like to joke.”
After finding the train conductor, You Yan first picked up the little blue light and then gave it instructions.
“Alright, little guy, time to get to work. Tell that big oaf outside that this isn’t the place for it, and tell it to find somewhere cool to stay.”
The little blue light gently fluttered its wings in Youyan’s palm. The soft blue light flickered a few times, and it flew up, passed through the carriage, and stopped in front of the glass window of the observation carriage. Its small body pressed against the transparent glass and began to flutter its wings.
“Buzz—”
The ominous red glow of the scales suddenly stopped, then slowly dissipated.
The disaster was resolved without anyone noticing it except March 7th and Youyan.
“Well done, Bruce.”
“…Bruce?”
March 7th is perplexing.
“That’s right, one of the highest compliments for a dog is to name it Bruce.”
Go Bruce, you can do it! (Two men and a dog on a motorcycle.JPG)
“But seriously, that one… I mean, that big guy outside, was really scared away by such a tiny little thing?”
“In the breeding system, class determines everything. Although I have now locked its fate, it is essentially a breeding messenger that I created yesterday. Its pheromones are the highest level of command for ordinary true insects.”
March 7th was silent for a few seconds.
“So when you turned into a giant worm yesterday, you could do that too?”
“Theoretically, yes.”
Pam came running over, carrying a soft, white mat.
“Flame passengers! March 7 passengers! What do you think of this cushion, Pam? It’s Pam’s favorite style… Just now, Pam thought she saw something red outside the window, was it something, Pam?”
Youyan and Sanyueqi exchanged a glance; their tacit understanding at that moment required no verbal communication.
Telling Pam that there was a bug bigger than a train trying to eat everyone as a snack was obviously not a good idea.
“Train conductor, you must be mistaken. Isn’t it always like this outside?”
“Really, Pam? Maybe Pam is just seeing things.” Pam quickly put the matter out of her mind and excitedly held up the white mat in her hand. “Look! This mat is so soft, Little Blue Lantern will definitely love it!”
Pam laid a cushion in one corner of the observation car.
“Alright, now that Little Blue Light is settled, Pam is going to check the engine room!”
After Pam left, March 7th continued discussing the matter with Yu Yan.
“If that thing had actually come crashing down, would our train still be standing?”
“The question we should be considering then is not whether we need the train or not, but how we get out of the insect’s stomach,” You Yan replied. “But don’t worry, those giant true worms are actually the lowest in status. They were probably just attracted by me and it yesterday.”
March 7th thought about it for a moment, then looked at him one last time.
“Honestly, you seem to have become exceptionally intelligent lately…”
She said it with some hesitation.
“However, in your eyes now, do you think I’m particularly stupid?”
“Intelligence is not the only measure of a person. Just like yesterday, even though I wasn’t very bright, no one looked down on me, and you even brought me lunch. If the price of becoming smart is losing friends, then I’d rather be an idiot. Intelligence is never a curse; arrogance is.”
She looked at You Yan, blinking her pinkish-blue eyes, probably to confirm whether this “smart person” was really talking nonsense.
“What…?”
Several seconds passed before she turned her face away, her ears turning slightly red.
“That’s so cheesy…it makes me sound like I’m petty.” She muttered under her breath, but couldn’t suppress the smile on her face. “But since you’ve put it that way, then I’ll reluctantly continue to protect you! Whether you become smarter or dumber, I’ll still protect you!”
“Of course, I’m extremely vulnerable right now. If you don’t believe me, let’s arm wrestle and you’ll see just how weak I really am.”
No matter what, people on March 7th are drawing bows, so how could their strength be small?
You Yan was thoroughly thrashed; no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t beat San Yue Qi.
“Huh? Why does it feel like you’re not using any force?”
March 7th stared blankly at You Yan’s hand, which she had easily pinned down on the table.
“I used it, but it didn’t work.” You Yan rubbed his wrist. “As I said, my physical fitness is quite average in my mental state. That last game exhausted all my exercise for the day.”
“That’s really exaggerated?”
“It’s that exaggerated. Now I even need Danheng’s help to open bottle caps.”
But this was actually part of the plan. Back when he was in school, he used this trick to touch the hands of all the girls in his class.
“That’s way too weak…”
“Yes, I’m a frail academic. That’s why I need Senior March 7’s protection,” You Yan said matter-of-factly. “Didn’t you just say you’d look after me?”
“Huh? I… I did say that…” March 7th paused for a moment, then puffed out her chest, “Of course! I keep my word!”
“March 7th senior is really reliable~”
March 7th gradually lost herself amidst the repeated calls of “senior,” a silly smile on her face, completely forgetting that she had just been worried that Youyan might think she was stupid.
Hehehe.
I am the senior.
“Um, Senior March.”
“uh-huh?”
“You’re drooling.”
“Huh?!” March 7th suddenly raised her hand to wipe her mouth.
It doesn’t seem like acting.
“Alright, as payment for your willingness to protect me, I can grant you three wishes.”
“Give me three wishes? Really?”
March 7th looked at You Yan with suspicion.
“But you’re so frail… how can you fulfill my wish?”
“As I said, my strength today lies in [Intelligence], not in numbers.”
March 7’s eyes lit up, but quickly narrowed back to slits as he warily watched Youyan.
“Wait a minute, you’re not the type who can grant your wishes but comes at a price, are you? I’ve read so many stories where these kinds of plots always end up being huge pitfalls!”
“Why would I cheat you? What I mean is, I have a way to get the result you want to you in the most effortless and reasonable way.”
March 7th looked him up and down suspiciously. Although the guy sounded confident now, his skinny arms and legs made him seem unreliable no matter how you looked at him.
“Alright, since you’ve put it that way…” Her eyes darted around, “Then my first wish… is to have an ice cream machine that can make 30 different flavors! Like the super expensive one in the commercials!”
“Okay, you wait.”
