For the past few days, Alice had been visiting Yuichi’s house almost every evening.

In return, Yuichi taught her about common sense, everyday customs, and the various rules of living in the human world. Despite having to work during the day, Yuichi found himself enjoying this simple routine.

Little by little, Alice, who had once been determined to defeat the demons, began to accept the idea of living peacefully in this world.

But before she could settle down completely, there was something she needed to do.

That evening, when Yuichi had just returned from work, Alice finally brought it up.

“Yuichi, I want to go back and visit my parents.”

Yuichi immediately understood what she meant by “visit.” He couldn’t help but ask worriedly:

“Are you sure you’ll be alright going back alone?”

Alice gently shook her head.

“It’s fine. Jebecarred will be coming with me, so you don’t need to worry.”

“When are you leaving?”

“Tonight.”

Yuichi lowered his head slightly.

“So soon…”

First Chiba had disappeared.

Now even Alice was leaving.

Although Alice and Yuichi had experienced plenty of conflicts in the past, Alice had nevertheless brought a lot of happiness into his life.

Now, even she was going away.

Not wanting Alice to notice his sadness, Yuichi forced himself to smile.

“Alright, then. Have a safe trip.”

Alice nodded seriously.

“Yuichi, thank you for taking care of me all this time. Is there anything you’d like me to do for you?”

Something he’d like her to do?

Yuichi thought for a moment.

“If you can, please give Chiba a message for me. Ask her when she’s coming back.”

“Please…”

To avoid being disturbed, Alice and Jebecarred chose a cemetery as the place to perform the ritual.

There were plenty of stories about ghosts in the human world, so ordinary people wouldn’t dare come here at night.

Jebecarred, however, wasn’t worried in the slightest.

Even if some fool suddenly crawled out of a grave to frighten him, he would probably just slap the poor soul straight back into the ground.

Jebecarred then began drawing strange patterns on the ground.

At first glance, they looked like nothing more than an irregular collection of lines.

In reality, it was a magic circle.

He had reconstructed it from the fragments they had found. He wasn’t certain that it would work, but they had used the same method to enter the human world before.

Perhaps it could take them back as well.

“Alice, are you ready? I’m about to begin.”

Under the moonlight, Jebecarred turned toward her.

“Mm.”

Alice nodded.

Jebecarred began chanting.

The moment his voice fell, brilliant white light erupted from the magic circle.

The light gradually swallowed Alice and Jebecarred until their figures completely disappeared.

When Alice opened her eyes again, the unfamiliar scenery immediately told her that they had successfully returned to Anstertantin.

But something was wrong.

The village that should have been here was completely gone.

All that remained was a vast stretch of ruined land.

Alice stared at the scene in confusion.

She had no idea what had happened here.

Jebecarred seemed equally surprised. After thinking for a moment, he turned toward Alice.

“Let’s return to the Church of Assis first and let everyone know we’re safe.”

“Alright.”

Alice didn’t particularly like the church anymore, but she had been raised and trained there.

Returning for a visit wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.

The two began making their way toward the headquarters of the Church of Assis.

Alice knew the map of Anstertantin extremely well, so getting lost wasn’t a concern.

As they passed through the nearby villages, however, the villagers quickly recognized Alice.

“Look! Isn’t that Hero Alice?”

“It really is her! Has she returned from the human world?”

“I have to tell everyone about this!”

Whispers spread throughout the village.

To these people, Alice was still a legendary hero.

The battle between Alice and the demons had been remembered for years, and her achievements remained deeply engraved in the memories of the people of Anstertantin.

Yet Alice paid little attention to their reactions.

She had only one thing on her mind.

She wanted to return to her hometown, see her parents one last time, and pay her respects.

But before she could reach her destination…

Something unexpected happened.

A group of soldiers suddenly appeared and surrounded Alice and Jebecarred.

“Are you Hero Alice?”

Alice looked at them.

“Yes.”

“Then please come with us.”

Alice was stunned.

She had considered that some people might resent her, but she never expected to be treated this way immediately after returning.

Still, she had planned to go to the church anyway.

So she decided not to resist.

She quietly followed the soldiers.

Soon, they arrived at the headquarters of the Church of Assis.

The moment Alice stepped inside, she was greeted by a strange sight.

A large number of apostles were gathered in the hall, standing in two orderly rows.

The atmosphere was solemn.

Alice looked around, confused.

What exactly were they planning to do?

A man standing in the center finally stepped forward.

“Hero Alice, do you know what crime you’ve committed?”

Alice froze.

“What… do you mean?”

The man sneered.

“Still pretending you don’t know?”

He raised his voice.

“Fine. I’ll tell you myself.”

“You colluded with demons and attacked innocent humans.”

Alice’s eyes widened.

“What?”

“I originally intended to hold you accountable for your crimes, but you escaped to the human world. And now you’ve suddenly returned.”

His expression became cold.

“Tell me, Hero Alice. Have you returned because you intend to rebel?”

Alice stood completely dumbfounded.

She couldn’t understand what he was talking about.

She had never harmed innocent humans.

In fact, she had done the opposite.

She had finally realized that perhaps the demons weren’t the monsters she had once believed them to be.

Yet now she was being accused of colluding with them.

Alice’s naturally timid personality made the situation even worse.

With so many people staring at her, she struggled to find the words to defend herself.

After a long silence, she finally managed to speak.

“I didn’t…”

“Enough.”

The ambassador waved his hand dismissively.

“You’ll only make excuses.”

Then he turned toward Jebecarred.

“Jebecarred, teach her a lesson.”

Alice’s heart stopped.

She instinctively turned around.

Jebecarred was already standing behind her, his greatsword raised high.

“Wait…”

Alice didn’t even have time to react.

The sword came crashing down.

Alice collapsed to the ground, completely overwhelmed by confusion and despair.

For a moment, everything seemed to stand still.

She couldn’t understand what was happening.

Why?

Why were they treating her like this?

The question echoed repeatedly through her mind.

Why… why are they treating me like this?
