- Chapter 1 - The Fox in Autumn
Autumn had settled over the city, carrying with it a crisp chill that lingered in the air.
Inside a quiet bar, a woman rested with her head tilted against the back of her chair, seemingly asleep. A black blazer had slipped loosely over her shoulders, partially exposing the white shirt beneath and a glimpse of her slender waist. The careless elegance only added to her natural allure.
Muted news reports played from the television mounted overhead. Her eyes remained shut, long lashes casting delicate shadows across her pale face. Even in sleep, she possessed an untouchable beauty that drew attention without effort.
The bartender, hired specifically for private service that evening, found himself glancing toward her again and again. Every movement he made became quieter, fearful that even the smallest sound might wake her.
Perhaps because of the peaceful silence, old memories crept into her dreams.
Five years earlier.
Back then, Xu Suxin stood at the center of the capital’s most extravagant celebration. At only twenty years old, she was the treasured daughter of the wealthiest family in the city, surrounded by luxury and admiration wherever she went.
She wore a custom-made black cheongsam embroidered with golden patterns, every stitch reflecting unimaginable wealth. Her life itself seemed priceless—glittering, dazzling, and completely beyond the reach of ordinary people.
Holding a crystal wine glass, her gaze wandered lazily toward the line of bodyguards stationed nearby.
Among them stood someone impossible to overlook.
Tall, broad-shouldered, and wearing shoulder-length blond hair, the young bodyguard looked strangely out of place among the others. Xu Suxin immediately gave her a nickname in her heart.
Little Monster.
The bodyguard quietly performed her duties, unaware that she had already caught the attention of the birthday queen.
While serving drinks, a single careless movement caused red wine to splash across Xu Suxin’s expensive dress.
A dark stain spread across the elegant fabric.
The room fell silent.
Before the bodyguard could apologize, security personnel grabbed her arms and forced her forward.
Confusion flashed through those striking blue eyes as she instinctively stepped back, only to be pushed closer.
Xu Suxin’s fascination with beautiful things bordered on obsession, and those gemstone-like eyes instantly captured her interest.
When the young woman tried to avoid her touch, another guard pressed firmly against her shoulder, preventing escape.
How amusing.
This untamed creature looked like a wild beast refusing to bow.
Unfortunately for her, twenty-year-old Xu Suxin had never accepted resistance from anyone.
Looking down from above, she lifted her chin slightly and gave a single cold command.
“Clean it.”
Hatred burned inside the bodyguard’s eyes.
She resisted.
Xu Suxin responded by gripping her jaw tighter, leaving faint red marks against fair skin before forcing the other woman’s face toward the stained fabric.
Soft lips brushed lightly against the dress.
The touch was unexpectedly gentle.
For a brief second, the sensation lingered against Xu Suxin’s skin like the faintest tickle, strangely vivid amid the laughter and dazzling lights surrounding them.
Meanwhile, humiliation flooded those crystal-blue eyes.
Like a proud wolf driven into submission, the young bodyguard stared upward with restrained fury.
For reasons even she couldn’t explain, Xu Suxin felt a restless thrill.
She laughed softly, tapped the woman’s lips with a fingertip, then leaned close enough for only the two of them to hear.
“I’ll spare you this once.”
The banquet erupted with music and applause as though nothing unusual had happened.
Twenty-year-old Xu Suxin remained the dazzling daughter of the richest man in the capital—reckless, arrogant, and impossible to restrain.
She inspired endless envy.
She also inspired endless resentment.
As she turned away beneath the golden lights, the blond bodyguard remained standing in silence.
Her fists were tightly clenched.
Her thin figure trembled almost imperceptibly, resembling a lone plum tree that had survived winter’s cruelty only to have every blossom stripped away by force.
