The day Chen Mo and Su Qingyi found each other again in the library, something quietly changed.

The first time they fell in love, it was innocent.

The second time, it was a choice.

And choosing the same person after experiencing heartbreak was a different kind of courage.

Because now they knew exactly how much pain the other could cause.

Yet they still reached for each other’s hand.

As they walked out of the library that evening, soft clouds drifted across the Hangzhou sky.

The breeze carried the scent of rain.

It reminded them both of another rainy day.

The day of a single umbrella.

The day everything had begun.

Neither of them spoke much.

Simply walking side by side was enough.

After a while, Su Qingyi asked,

“What are you going to do after the final exams?”

Chen Mo smiled.

“I’m going home.”

“My grandfather has been calling almost every week asking when I’ll visit.”

“You really adore your grandparents.”

“I do.”

He looked toward the distant lake.

“They practically raised me.”

“My grandfather isn’t wealthy.”

“He isn’t famous.”

“He never went to university.”

“But he’s the strongest person I’ve ever known.”

“He spent his entire life protecting our family without asking for anything in return.”

Chen Mo’s expression softened.

“If I can become half the man he is, I’ll be satisfied.”

Su Qingyi quietly watched him.

In that moment, she understood something she had never fully realized before.

Chen Mo didn’t dream of becoming successful to impress anyone.

He simply wanted to become someone his family could rely on.

That quiet sincerity was exactly what had captured her heart.

After getting back together, they both tried to be more careful.

They studied harder.

Spent less time chatting during class.

Reminded each other to focus before examinations.

Yet love had a habit of ignoring carefully made plans.

Without realizing it, they slowly drifted back into their old routines.

Walking together.

Studying together.

Waiting for each other after class.

One evening, they climbed the small hill overlooking West Lake.

The setting sun dyed the clouds shades of orange and violet.

A cool breeze swept across the grass.

Su Qingyi smiled faintly.

“You came here after we broke up, didn’t you?”

Chen Mo nodded.

“Almost every week.”

“What did you do?”

He laughed softly.

“I talked to you.”

She blinked.

“But I wasn’t here.”

“I know.”

He looked toward the horizon.

“I still told you everything.”

“My grades.”

“My grandfather’s health.”

“The things I wanted to say but couldn’t.”

“I imagined you sitting beside me.”

For a long moment, Su Qingyi remained silent.

Then she gently called him an idiot.

This time, however, there was no teasing in her voice.

Only affection.

She sat down on the grass.

Chen Mo joined her.

After watching the sunset in silence, she spoke again.

“Promise me something.”

“What is it?”

“If another problem appears…”

She turned toward him.

“Don’t decide everything by yourself.”

“We face it together.”

“No more leaving because you think it’s for my own good.”

Chen Mo looked into her eyes.

Then nodded firmly.

“Together.”

She extended her hand.

“Partners?”

He intertwined his fingers with hers.

“Partners.”

For a while, the world seemed perfectly peaceful.

Unfortunately…

The world rarely allowed happiness to remain untouched.

The next obstacle arrived from outside.

One afternoon, Su Qingyi’s homeroom teacher asked her to stay after class.

“You have outstanding potential.”

“You could attend one of the country’s best universities.”

Then she paused.

“I’ve heard about your relationship with Chen Mo.”

Su Qingyi answered honestly.

“It’s true.”

The teacher sighed.

“I’m not saying he’s a bad student.”

“But at your age, emotions often become distractions.”

“Focus on your future first.”

“Love can wait.”

“Opportunities cannot.”

Su Qingyi nodded politely.

“I understand.”

Yet as she walked away, a single question lingered in her mind.

Why does everyone believe dreams and love cannot exist together?

Meanwhile, Chen Mo faced pressure from his own family.

One evening, his father called.

“Our family’s situation isn’t easy.”

“We’ve sacrificed a great deal to send you here.”

“So study hard.”

“Don’t waste this opportunity.”

“I know.”

After ending the call, Chen Mo stared quietly at the framed photograph on his desk.

It showed him and Su Qingyi smiling beside West Lake.

He whispered softly,

“I’m trying to build a future.”

“But I don’t want one that doesn’t include you.”

The pressure gradually increased.

From teachers.

From parents.

From society.

Even from their own fears.

Their relationship was no longer simply about love.

It had become a battle.

Not against each other.

But against everything surrounding them.

One evening, while walking home, Su Qingyi suddenly asked,

“What if my family refuses to accept you someday?”

Chen Mo thought for a moment.

“Then I’ll work until they have no reason to reject me.”

“And if they still refuse?”

He smiled gently.

“Then I’ll spend the rest of my life proving that I can make you happy.”

Her eyes slowly reddened.

“Why do you love me this much?”

He looked ahead.

“I don’t know.”

“I only know that whenever I imagine the future…”

“You’re always standing beside me.”

Without saying anything, Su Qingyi rested her head against his shoulder.

A small smile appeared on her lips.

“When I imagine the future…”

“I see a quiet house.”

“A little garden.”

“Two horses.”

“A few cows.”

“And you.”

Chen Mo laughed.

“You still remember?”

She nodded.

“I remember everything.”

As they continued walking beneath the fading sunset, Chen Mo suddenly stopped.

“I don’t know what tomorrow will bring.”

“I don’t know whether life will be easy.”

“I don’t know whether our families will agree.”

“I don’t even know whether we’ll succeed.”

He turned to look at her.

“But there is one thing I’m certain of.”

“Loving you is the best decision I’ve ever made.”

Su Qingyi stepped forward without hesitation and wrapped her arms around him.

“Then don’t stop.”

Her voice was barely audible.

“Never.”

Chen Mo returned the embrace.

“I never will.”

Above them, the evening sky quietly darkened.

Neither of them realized that fate had been listening to every promise they made.

And fate…

Had already begun preparing the trials that would test each and every one of them.

Because their story was never meant to be an ordinary romance.

It was a story of dreams.

Of sacrifice.

Of distance.

Of family.

Of countless separations and reunions.

And one day—

Of a goodbye neither of them would ever see coming.
