- Chapter 5 - The Demon King of the Back Mountain
Mira wore a faded witch’s robe with the sleeves rolled up to her forearms. A golden badge of the Witch Academy hung around her neck from a rusty iron chain.
Her short chestnut hair was messy, but according to her, it was a carefully styled, neat mess.
A pair of small, stick-out hairs stood up on her forehead, jiggling as she ran.
She wore a black short skirt, the standard attire of a witch academy, and little leather shoes, giving her a truly innocent and carefree childlike appearance.
It feels like I’m just accompanying a child in getting into trouble.
Mila said that the plant is called “Remnant Star Grass”. It is green with serrated edges on one side and gradually deepens into a moon-white color on the other side, making it very easy to identify.
It works simply by picking the herb and swallowing it directly.
Ariel felt a sense of déjà vu, as if she had once teamed up with someone in a secret realm to search for treasure in her past life, and her heart was filled with a long-lost thrill and excitement.
“Mira, the back mountain is a forbidden area. If you’re discovered there, you could even be expelled!”
Although Mila brought the news, as a good friend, I didn’t want Mila to take the risk.
It’s just picking some grass, there’s no need for two people to go together.
“Giggle…”
Mila let out a strange laugh.
“Huh? Mila, are you smiling?”
The laughter sounded very discordant. Mira usually laughed a lot, but she had never laughed like that before.
This can be compared to the unique “hehehe” laughter of the demonic sects in my previous life.
Mira smiled and shook her head, revealing a sweet dimple between her rosy cheeks:
“No, Ariel. However, I happen to have a way to get into the back of the mountain without being detected.”
Mira reached forward and touched the edge of the barrier behind the mountain, revealing a corner of the barrier.
Then, Mira lightly tapped her finger, and the small barrier shattered instantly, revealing a passage into the back mountain.
Before she could react, Mira gave her another gentle push, sending Ariel tumbling into the back of the mountain.
Wait a moment!
Ariel stared at Mira as she strolled in leisurely and immediately sensed something was wrong.
I’ve been roommates with Mira for a semester. How could Mira have such amazing abilities?
Mila usually only displays basic spells like fireballs, ice blades, and wind bullets.
Breaking through the restrictions and barriers set up by the academy at will is not something a first-year student at a witch academy could do. Not even the top students in the fourth year could do it.
In other words, this is not Mira!
“Who are you?”
Ariel’s intuition, honed through her experiences in the world of cultivation, made her alert.
Mira raised her arms and stretched comfortably. Then, hands on her hips, a powerful, pure black magic gradually emanated from her body:
“Oh? You, a piece of trash expelled from the hero’s party, actually have such insight. In this respect, you are even better than that hero.”
The pure black magic rose and gathered, slowly forming a human figure. The figure covered its mouth and giggled.
Even from this figure, Ariel could see the pair of spiraling, slightly downward-curving horns on the top of her head, and the thin tail that ended in an arrow-like shape, swaying up and down with her laughter.
What’s even more eye-catching are the two brown sugar cakes on her chest, which are almost as big as herself.
After a long while, the magic dissipated, and the person’s face was revealed.
She placed her slender index finger on her lips. At the same time, she spread her black wings, making her shimmering white dress stand out even more. She stood firmly on her bare feet, as if walking on thin air.
Ariel’s eyes widened upon seeing this, and she involuntarily took a few steps back.
I had seen that face not long ago.
Those two corners are what the hero once wielded.
Those lips, they were once, once upon a time, those of the hero…
Ariel blushed slightly:
“You…you are the Demon King!”
“The Demon King? Where is the Demon King?!”
Mira herself was still dazed and didn’t know what had just happened. Upon hearing Ariel’s words, she immediately drew her staff and looked around.
But apart from Ariel, there were only various plants growing on the back hill, and no one else around.
Ariel’s face turned green, because Mira was right below the Demon King’s bare feet.
If the Demon King wanted, she could simply stomp on Mira’s head and then casually cast a spell to destroy everything here.
This is Evelyn, the Demon Lord of this generation, and is also considered the strongest Demon Lord in history.
Once, the Demon Queen Evelyn raised her hand and unleashed the eighth-level transcendent magic “Life Annihilation Curse,” which annihilated a small human nation.
Therefore, humanity finally restarted the Hero Ritual, selecting the current hero from among the three suitable candidates, bestowing upon him the Holy Sword, and naming him “Glorious Hero”.
He was fully aware of the strength of this glorious hero. If he were to fight the Demon Queen Evelyn now, Evelyn would probably be able to kill him with just a fingernail.
But isn’t it said that the Demon King cannot leave the Demon King’s Castle?
Why, why is the Demon Queen Evelyn appearing in the human world, and even in an academy that trains talent!
In that case, she could easily wipe out these human elites, or even destroy one country after another!
“I’m on your head, little girl.”
Mira looked up and saw the white-robed, black-winged demon king waving to her in a friendly manner.
“Wow!”
Mira knelt on the ground, head held high, crawling rapidly. The shadows on her face seemed to wear a black mask as she kept chanting, “Ariel, Ariel, Ariel…”
After finally crawling to Ariel’s side, Mira wiped away her cold sweat, clasped her hands together, and quickly uttered a divine incantation:
“Demon King, I didn’t know you would be here. I’m just an ordinary human from a tribe, 155cm tall, 16 years old, currently only knows second-stage magic, ranked last in my grade, don’t know the hero, and have no bad habits. I just cheated at cards in the tribe when I was a kid. I pose no threat to you whatsoever. Please don’t kill me!!!”
Evelyn was amused by Mira’s comical appearance, covered her mouth and giggled a few times before speaking:
“Mira, don’t worry. If I really wanted to kill you humans, I would have done it already.”
Ariel touched Mira, who was trembling all over and hadn’t been able to get up for a while, and comforted her:
“Yes, Mira, don’t be afraid. Besides, this is the capital city, the Demon King won’t make a move easily.”
Mira stood up, but still didn’t dare to look Evelyn in the eye.
Evelyn didn’t look at Mira, but deliberately licked her lips, staring at Ariel with a half-smile:
“We meet again, former member of the Hero Squad, Ariville.”
Ariel’s eyes darted around, deliberately looking to the side:
“I’ve never seen a Demon King before…”
This answer was exactly what Evelyn expected. Her eyes flashed, and she narrowed them slightly:
“Didn’t you see? Me and the hero…”
“Oh! I remember now, I’ve seen you before! Demon King!”
Ariel quickly interrupted Evelyn.
It’s fine for the hero and the demon king to know that they are lovers, but Mira must not find out.
If this news were to get out from Mira and the entire human race learned that humanity’s savior, the glorious hero, had fallen at the feet of the Demon King, what kind of panic would that cause!
