- Chapter 41 - Wife, food, I'm hungry
Upon hearing this, Gu Yezhou looked at the information on the computer screen and said, “Print a copy for me. I’ll visit Xiangyun Kindergarten tomorrow.”
But he remained efficient at work and dared not slack off at all.
Seeing that there was nothing more for him to do, and noticing that Gu Yezhou’s complexion had improved, Hua Ming, being mischievous, slapped Gu Yezhou on the buttocks.
“Old Gu, you’re still the same as when you were in the provincial government, all hypocritical.”
Gu Yezhou was taken aback, then turned around menacingly, grabbed Hua Ming by the ear, and dragged her out.
“Ouch…ouch ouch ouch, Lao Gu, I was wrong, please give me some face in front of outsiders…”
Outside the door, Hua Ming’s pig-like screams could be heard.
“Give you face? Don’t I need face?”
Gu Yezhou’s voice reached Sang Ning’s ears, and she couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
“Serves you right.” Shen Chen rolled his eyes.
Sang Ning asked him, “Was it like this before?”
“You should stay away from this Hua Ming from now on. She can draw, but she’s also cheap,” Shen Chen complained.
Sang Ning thought the three of them were really interesting.
It’s unclear how Gu Yezhou managed to persuade his superiors to bring both of these top talents over.
The criminal investigation team quickly grew in size, but it was still short-handed.
The next morning, just as Sang Ning finished getting ready to leave, she saw Gu Yezhou come out of the room with dark circles under his eyes.
Let’s go together.
Gu Yezhou yawned lazily.
“You…didn’t sleep last night?” Sang Ning asked tentatively.
Gu Yezhou stretched his limbs. “I slept for a while. This is the time when parents drop their children off at the kindergarten. The teachers should all be here by now. Let’s go visit the deceased’s brother.”
The deceased’s brother was none other than the kindergarten teacher, Dong Yunzhou, who bore a striking resemblance to the man in the portrait.
According to the information Shen Chen found, Dong Yunzhou’s older brother, Dong Ruiyang, used to be a security guard at Xiangyun Kindergarten. It’s unclear why the younger brother became a kindergarten teacher while the older brother became a security guard.
Dong Yunzhou is 34 years old this year. The two are twins, which means that Dong Ruiyang is also 34.
This matches Sang Ning’s estimate of the deceased’s age.
Along the way, Gu Yezhou stopped halfway to buy breakfast.
We stopped less than 100 meters from Xiangyun Kindergarten.
“Let’s have breakfast first, and then we’ll go in after the parents drop their children off at the kindergarten.”
Sang Ning nodded and naturally accepted the breakfast he offered.
I glanced at the soy milk; the sugar at the bottom hadn’t even dissolved yet. I looked inside the bag and asked, “Didn’t they give you a straw?”
Gu Yezhou rummaged through the bag in his hand. “I’ve probably been too busy. How about you drink this?”
He seemed to perform magic, producing milk from who-knows-where and from-when it had been stored away.
Sang Ning twitched the corner of her mouth. “When was that?”
The milk bottle feels cool to the touch; these are usually kept in the refrigerator, but since it’s cold now, it’s fine to leave it in the car.
“If you buy it from a convenience store, the shelf life is usually 3 to 10 days. If it’s fresh milk delivered every day, it might not be drinkable.”
As Sang Ning spoke, she looked at the milk, glancing left and right, but not at the bottle cap.
Gu Yezhou looked at her with a smile in his eyes and said, “Don’t worry, it’s from yesterday, it has a ten-day shelf life, and it’s safe to drink.”
“yesterday?”
Sang Ning was stunned for a moment. Gu Yezhou hadn’t been at the bureau all day yesterday, and she didn’t know where he had gone.
“Yeah, I bought it on the way. I was going to bring it back for you, but I forgot.”
“For me?” Sang Ning ate the shumai in the styrofoam box, one bite at a time, and mumbled, “I don’t drink milk much. Could it be that someone gave it to you and you’re too embarrassed to say so, so you just said you bought it yourself?”
Is this man really that warm-hearted?
Although they had gotten their marriage certificate, the two of them acted like complete strangers, except when they were discussing cases.
“I’m not that bored.” Gu Yezhou finished his breakfast in a few bites and now stared longingly at the one in Sang Ning’s hand.
Sang Ning was very possessive of her food and looked at him warily: “What are you doing? If you don’t have enough to eat, why don’t you buy more?”
“Wife, food, I’m hungry.”
Gu Yezhou stared at her expectantly.
Sang Ning trembled all over. What the hell?
How could this man be so childish? Anyway, he bought breakfast, so Sang Ning stuffed the last four pieces of shumai in her hand into his hand.
There were eight shumai in a box, and she slowly ate four.
“Here you go, take it all, don’t call me that.”
As Sang Ning spoke, she glanced out of the corner of her eye at the people walking by the car, thankfully no one noticed them.
“Wife? Why is your face red?” Gu Yezhou had a mischievous thought.
Their relationship is legal, so what’s wrong with him addressing them that way?
“I still prefer your serious, proper demeanor at the bureau.” Sang Ning glared at him, then turned her head away, refusing to look at him.
Gu Yezhou beside him chuckled softly, “Alright, I won’t tease you anymore, here you go.”
The shumai is back, but actually Sang Ning couldn’t eat much when she first woke up this morning.
After drinking the milk, I felt my stomach churning.
Milk and shumai are really not a good combination.
“Half for each of us, I can’t eat anymore.” Sang Ning glanced at the cars leaving one after another, and the kindergarten gate was already closed. “That’s about it, Dong Yunzhou should have arrived by now.”
Seeing that Gu Yezhou didn’t touch the chopsticks she handed him, Sang Ning frowned and said, “Open your mouth.”
Gu Yezhou turned his head and looked at her with confusion. He was about to say, “I’m full. I was just teasing you.”
Before I could even finish speaking, a shumai was stuffed into my mouth, filling it completely.
He stared intently at Sang Ning, and then was fed the second one.
Sang Ning seemed oblivious, tidied up the trash in the car, glanced around to make sure no other cars were nearby, and then got out.
However, Gu Yezhou did not get out of the car; he continued chewing in the car.
“Why are you pretending to be so serious? You can speak properly, but you always have to wear a sour face, like someone owes you millions.”
Sang Ning glanced at the man in the car, then walked towards Xiangyun Kindergarten without looking back.
I didn’t hear the door close behind me, but I did hear the car engine starting.
The car slowly pulled up beside her, and Gu Yezhou said, “Let’s drive in, don’t go any further, get in the car.”
“No need, I’m full, I’ll disappear.” Sang Ning quickened her pace.
Humans have two legs, which are no match for cars with four wheels.
With a whoosh, Gu Yezhou drove away, leaving Sang Ning alone walking on the road.
“Is this man… really that childish?”
Sang Ning didn’t expect Gu Yezhou to pester her too much, or to coax or persuade her to get in the car.
After all, by then we would have already reached the door.
In just a few dozen meters, Sang Ning had already reached the guardhouse. Gu Yezhou’s car was still blocking the entrance to the kindergarten, preventing him from entering.
Sang Ning leaned against the wall, arms crossed, and said, “Oh, didn’t you say you wanted to go in? Go ahead, if the gate isn’t open, just fly over.”
Gu Yezhou felt both helpless and amused, so he simply parked the car in the very center.
The security guard was completely confused. He had just realized that the man was a policeman and was about to notify the principal when he stopped the car.
So… should I turn the remote control I’m holding on or off?
Since the car is already off, let’s not drive it.
