- Starting with a Breakup: Why Is the True Heiress My Possessive Ex?
- Chapter 9 - The Tables Have Turned
Xu Nian was stunned.
Completely stunned.
How had things suddenly turned out like this?
Hadn’t she already prepared everything?
Hadn’t she already put her plan into motion?
Why did it feel as though she was the one being cornered instead?
“Q-Qingya, calm down!”
The moment the words left her mouth, Xu Nian froze.
Why did that line sound so familiar?
Su Qingya’s cheeks were slightly flushed.
“How am I supposed to calm down?”
She crossed her arms.
“Do you know how scared I was yesterday?”
“I wanted comfort.”
“I wanted to hear your voice.”
“And instead, you sent me that ridiculous breakup message.”
Xu Nian immediately lowered her head.
“I was wrong!”
“Really wrong!”
“I promise I won’t do it again!”
“Hmph.”
Su Qingya clearly wasn’t convinced.
“That’s easy for you to say now.”
Seeing the dangerous look in her eyes, Xu Nian instinctively transformed into her fox form and attempted to flee.
Unfortunately, her escape lasted less than two seconds.
A fluffy white tail was a terrible weakness.
The next moment, Su Qingya caught it.
“Eep!”
Xu Nian found herself suspended in midair.
Her tiny paws flailed helplessly.
The entire fox trembled.
“Hehe…”
She forced out an awkward smile.
“Can we talk this out?”
Su Qingya didn’t answer.
Instead, she simply stared at the struggling fox.
That silence was somehow even more terrifying.
Xu Nian immediately became nervous.
Very nervous.
The simulations she’d witnessed flashed through her mind one after another.
No.
No.
This was bad.
Very bad.
Just as panic began to set in, Xu Nian suddenly reverted back to human form and tumbled onto the sofa.
The sudden transformation caught both of them off guard.
For a brief moment, silence filled the room.
Then—
“Pervert!”
Xu Nian grabbed the nearest pillow and held it in front of herself.
“You’re a complete pervert!”
Su Qingya blinked.
“What did I do?”
“You know exactly what you did!”
Xu Nian pointed accusingly.
“I don’t know.”
“You do!”
“I don’t.”
“You absolutely do!”
Watching Xu Nian’s indignant reaction, Su Qingya couldn’t help laughing.
For the first time that evening, some of the tension faded.
Unfortunately, it didn’t last long.
“Nian.”
Su Qingya slowly leaned closer.
Xu Nian immediately backed away.
Then backed away again.
Until she realized there was nowhere left to retreat.
“N-Nian?”
“Why are you running?”
“I’m not running.”
“Then why are you all the way over there?”
“…Strategic positioning.”
Su Qingya burst out laughing.
“You really are terrible at lying.”
Xu Nian’s face turned red.
This wasn’t how the plan was supposed to go.
She was supposed to be the one taking control.
She was supposed to be executing the Reverse Yandere Strategy.
So why did it feel like she was losing ground at every turn?
Just as she was wondering what to do next—
Su Qingya suddenly froze.
Her movements stopped.
The smile on her face disappeared.
She blinked several times.
“…Huh?”
A look of confusion appeared in her eyes.
Then she swayed slightly.
Xu Nian’s eyes immediately lit up.
Finally.
After all this time…
The enhanced meal had finally taken effect.
A golden opportunity!
The moment Xu Nian noticed Su Qingya’s movements slowing, she acted immediately.
With lightning speed, she snatched the item from Su Qingya’s hand and tossed it far away.
Then, before the other girl could react, Xu Nian pushed her gently onto the sofa.
The tables had finally turned.
Offense and defense had switched.
“W-What did you do to me…?”
Su Qingya blinked slowly.
Her vision seemed blurry.
Even keeping her eyes open required effort.
Xu Nian placed her hands on her hips proudly.
“Puff puff puff~”
“Trash Qingya, you’ve fallen right into my trap.”
She raised her chin triumphantly.
“I admit you caused me quite a bit of trouble today.”
“But unfortunately…”
Xu Nian pointed dramatically at her.
“You’re still far from defeating me.”
Outside the window, birds chirped cheerfully.
To Xu Nian, it sounded as though nature itself was celebrating her comeback victory.
The more she thought about it, the more pleased she became.
For the first time all evening, she was the one holding the advantage.
“Now then…”
Xu Nian leaned closer.
A mischievous smile spread across her face.
“Who’s the winner?”
Su Qingya looked up at her through half-lidded eyes.
Despite her weakened state, there was still a trace of stubbornness there.
That expression made Xu Nian feel even more accomplished.
She lifted Su Qingya’s chin with a finger.
“Hmph.”
“You successfully caught my attention.”
“But if you think that’s enough to beat me…”
She laughed.
“Try again in a hundred years.”
The smugness in her voice was impossible to hide.
Unfortunately, the moment she finished speaking, she felt a chill run down her spine.
Something was wrong.
Very wrong.
Su Qingya’s gaze hadn’t changed.
If anything, it had become even more dangerous.
Xu Nian immediately became alert.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
Su Qingya slowly raised a hand.
Xu Nian instantly retreated.
“Hey! No sneaky attacks!”
The fox girl’s ears stood upright.
Every survival instinct she possessed was screaming at her.
Even in her current condition, Su Qingya still felt dangerous.
Ridiculously dangerous.
For several seconds, neither spoke.
Then Su Qingya’s raised hand slowly dropped.
Her eyelids became heavier.
The fight gradually left her body.
The medicine was finally taking full effect.
Xu Nian carefully observed her.
Five seconds.
Ten seconds.
Twenty seconds.
The resistance in Su Qingya’s eyes faded further and further.
At last, she let out a soft sigh.
“…Fine.”
A small smile appeared on her lips.
“If it’s you…”
The sentence never finished.
Her head tilted slightly.
The exhaustion finally won.
Xu Nian stared at her in disbelief.
Then, after confirming that the danger had truly passed, she collapsed backward onto the sofa.
“Whew…”
Her entire body relaxed.
Victory.
After all the simulations.
All the bad endings.
All the terrifying predictions.
She had finally won a round.
At least…
That’s what Xu Nian thought.
