Lin Youwei quickly said, “How about I cook?”

Chen Feng thought for a moment, then simply handed the dishes to Lin Youwei and said with a smile, “Okay, I’ll try my new daughter-in-law’s cooking today.”

Lin Youwei felt as if someone had poked her in the heart, and quickly said, “Xiaofeng, what you’re doing… what you’re doing is wrong. I’m your master’s wife.”

Chen Feng scoffed, “Go ask the marriage certificate! Ask the Party and the State whether they recognize you as my teacher’s wife or my wife?”

Lin Youwei was dumbfounded and wanted to say something, but Chen Feng slapped her on the butt and urged, “Alright, go cook.”

Lin Youwei was so shocked that she dropped the vegetables in her hand. She looked at Chen Feng in a panic and said, “Xiao Feng, you…you shouldn’t do this.”

Chen Feng could only nod helplessly, “Alright, alright, I know, but we’re already married, you can’t keep doing this, can you?”

“But isn’t our marriage a sham?” Lin Youwei whispered.

Chen Feng laughed and said, “Whether it’s true or false, you have to act convincingly, right? Otherwise, everyone in the factory is shrewd. If they find out, not only will we lose our housing, but we won’t be able to hold our heads up in the factory anymore.”

Lin Youwei thought about it and agreed, and could only whisper, “This…this isn’t in the factory.”

“You don’t understand. I’m building up our understanding so that we won’t be exposed later,” Chen Feng said solemnly.

Lin Youwei thought about it and realized that nothing seemed wrong, so she picked up the food and started cooking. Chen Feng looked at Lin Youwei, who looked like a silly girl, and sighed repeatedly. It was no wonder it was the 1970s. Where could you find a girl like this decades later? This was not a rare animal, but a completely extinct one.

An hour later, Lin Youwei came out of the kitchen carrying food and placed it on the table one by one.

Lin Youwei wiped her sweat and said, “I stir-fried pork belly with green peppers, and braised the other two pig trotters. I didn’t have any braising spices at home, otherwise I could have braised them. I also made stir-fried pork intestines with the remaining large intestines. I just don’t know if you’ll like them.”

Chen Feng glanced at the dishes on the table and couldn’t help but give a thumbs up. “Master’s wife, I didn’t expect you to have such skills. You could open a restaurant with this.”

Lin Youwei smiled and said, “It’s very difficult to get into state-run restaurants. Even if we have connections, we still can’t get in.”

Chen Feng smiled without saying a word. Right now, all the restaurants outside are state-owned. It won’t be until next year that the country will open up private industries. So, in Lin Youwei’s mind, opening a restaurant is out of the question; the only option is to work in a state-owned restaurant.

Before Chen Feng could speak, Lin Youwei served him more rice and even handed him chopsticks with both hands.

“Master’s wife, is this how you serve Master when you’re at home?” Chen Feng asked.

Lin Youwei nodded, “Yes, your master has very strict rules. If you don’t do well, you’ll have to…!”

“What do you want?” Chen Feng pressed.

“No, you should eat!” Lin Youwei pursed her lips, a hint of lingering fear in her expression.

Chen Feng stood up, went to the kitchen to serve Lin Youwei rice and chopsticks, but Lin Youwei just stared blankly at him, not knowing how to take them.

Chen Feng placed the rice in front of Lin Youwei, then put the chopsticks in her hand, and held her hand, grinning as he said, “Why are you standing there like an idiot?!”

Lin Youwei didn’t notice that her hand was still in Chen Feng’s hand, and simply said, “I can serve myself. You’re the head of the household, so sit down and eat.”

“That doesn’t make sense.” Chen Feng shook his head, his face serious. “What does it mean to be the head of the household? You work hard every day, and what does he do? He just stays at home drinking. Why should he be the head of the household? If you ask me, this family is only a family with you. Without you, it falls apart.”

Lin Youwei felt her heart pounding. Everyone understands the logic, but in front of Zhou Zhenglong, Lin Youwei never dared to think like this, let alone expect that one day she could sit here and eat the food served by others and have chopsticks handed to her.

Before Lin Youwei could react, Chen Feng released her hand, sat down opposite her, and said with a smile, “Thank you for your hard work, Master’s wife. Let’s have a toast to celebrate getting our marriage certificate.”

After saying that, Chen Feng took a bottle of beer from the cabinet. This stuff is hard to come by these days. Chen Feng’s stock was given to him by someone before, and he hadn’t been willing to drink it.

“I’ll pour it!” Lin Youwei quickly took the beer from Chen Feng, picked up a glass, carefully poured a glass for Chen Feng, and then put the bottle down.

Chen Feng found it amusing, so he took another cup and poured one for Lin Youwei as well.

Lin Youwei quickly shook her head, “No need, I… I won’t drink it either.”

“It’s okay, it’s beer, the alcohol content is very low, drinking a little won’t cause any problems.” Chen Feng ignored Lin Youwei’s refusal and poured her a full glass.

Lin Youwei pursed her lips and didn’t refuse again. Then Chen Feng raised his glass and looked at Lin Youwei happily, “Come on, let’s celebrate our marriage registration, wife, cheers!”

Lin Youwei looked flustered. She opened her mouth but didn’t make a sound. Instead, she downed the beer in one gulp.

Chen Feng was both amused and exasperated. He could only drink a glass with her, then poured another glass for Lin Youwei and started preparing dinner. After tasting all the dishes, Chen Feng gave her a genuine thumbs up.

“Master’s wife, your cooking skills are truly unparalleled, it’s so delicious!” Chen Feng didn’t hold back his praise.

Lin Youwei said somewhat shyly, “My dad used to be a chef, and I’ve always learned from him.”

The two shared a bottle of beer, and it was gone in no time. Chen Feng felt nothing after drinking it, but Lin Youwei was different. She had never drunk alcohol before, and after the meal, she felt a little dizzy.

“Master’s wife, if you’re not feeling well, go to bed. I’ll take care of the rest,” Chen Feng said.

Lin Youwei tried to hold on, but she really couldn’t hold on any longer. She could only nod slightly and say apologetically, “Xiaofeng, you can just leave it there. I’ll clean it up when I’ve calmed down.”

“Okay, go and rest!” Chen Feng nodded.

Lin Youwei went to the bed and fell into a drowsy sleep as soon as she lay down. She didn’t know how much time had passed before she slowly woke up. However, as soon as she woke up, she felt a little heavy on her body. When she opened her eyes, she found that Chen Feng was holding her and sleeping on the bed.

“Ah!” Lin Youwei exclaimed and pushed Chen Feng off the bed.

Chen Feng was caught off guard and fell hard, scrambling to his feet while clutching his backside.

“Master’s wife, what are you doing? Are you trying to kill me?”

“You… how come you’re in bed too?” Lin Youwei asked in horror.

Chen Feng was taken aback for a moment before saying, “Oh! I have a habit of taking a nap in the afternoon. There’s only one bed at home. Since you’ve taken it, I have nowhere to sleep, so I’ll squeeze in with you.”

After saying that, Chen Feng explained, “Master’s wife, don’t worry, it was just a squeeze, I didn’t do anything! I’m not that kind of person.”

Seeing Lin Youwei’s flustered expression, Chen Feng suddenly asked, “By the way, Master’s wife, how did you and my master meet? I’m a straightforward person, and my master is not good enough for you.”

“It was an introduction from someone else.” Lin Youwei’s eyes dimmed, and she said with a miserable expression, “My younger brother was getting married, but we didn’t have any money… Your master gave me two hundred yuan, and I didn’t even meet him before I married him.”

Chen Feng sighed and suddenly said, “If you could return this two hundred yuan to him, would you no longer have to be with him?”

Lin Youwei’s face froze, her heart pounding wildly. She quickly said, “You…it’s impossible. Putting aside whether he agrees or not, even if he does agree, there’s nothing I can do…who will want me in the future?”

“I want you.” Chen Feng stared intently into Lin Youwei’s eyes and said firmly.
