Jiang Rong smiled and didn’t say anything, continuing to chat with Chen Feng. After the two finished eating, Chen Feng wanted to pay, but was told that their money had already been paid by the guests in the private room.

“What… what’s going on here?” Chen Feng said, both amused and exasperated. “How can I treat others to a meal and they have to pay?”

Jiang Rong smiled and said, “It’s okay. If you feel bad about it, you can just treat me again later.”

“Okay.” Chen Feng nodded, then took Jiang Rong back to school. The two agreed that Chen Feng would treat her again in a few days when he was free, and even joked that it might be a celebration banquet for her achievements.

Back at the factory, Chen Feng threw himself back into the design he had promised Wu Wenhua. Just before the end of the workday, someone suddenly arrived. One of them was none other than Jiang Wei, the guy who had almost lost all his pants playing games with Chen Feng earlier.

Chen Feng saw Jiang Wei standing in front of him and said with amusement, “What’s this? Are you planning to avenge your previous defeat and play tricks on me again?”

Jiang Wei said coldly, “Only a fool would play with you.”

“You’re right, it’s just a bunch of idiots trying to mess with me!” Chen Feng shrugged.

“You…!” Jiang Wei glared angrily, but dared not speak for a moment, afraid that he might say something wrong and give Chen Feng something to use against him, and be ridiculed again.

“I’m not going to argue with you!” Jiang Wei said through gritted teeth. “But I’ve also heard that you’re about to be transferred to Wanhuai Coal Mine. In that case… you should withdraw from the housing allocation!”

“Why should I quit?” Chen Feng scoffed.

Jiang Wei said without hesitation, “Why don’t you quit? These houses are a welfare benefit that the factory provides to its own workers. You’re not even working at our machinery factory anymore, yet you’re trying to take our spots. Don’t you feel guilty?”

Chen Feng looked somewhat surprised. No wonder there’s the saying “butterfly effect.” A small change can lead to a completely different future. This didn’t happen in his previous life.

Che Fei glanced at Jiang Wei and immediately understood that this idiot was being used by someone else to become a scapegoat. Even if he really gave up his share of the housing, it wouldn’t be Jiang Wei’s turn. Whether it was his length of service at the factory or his contributions to the factory, he was far from meeting the requirements. Jiang Wei immediately said, “You’re going to the Wanhuai Coal Mine soon, how can you be considered a worker in our factory?”

“No matter who it is! Just tell me if this is true or not.” The person next to Jiang Wei said. This was a senior worker in the workshop with a large family and a poor situation. If he himself was not involved in the housing allocation, this person might be able to take his place later.

“No.” Chen Feng shook his head without hesitation. You think you can just say you have something? Show me the evidence!

Sure enough, when Chen Feng shook his head, the two were immediately dumbfounded. Jiang Wei quickly said, “Everyone knows about this. How can you say it didn’t happen?”

“Section Chief Lin?” Chen Feng frowned. Sure enough, success comes from secrecy and failure from leaks. Lin Xiaoyi usually seemed like a reliable person, how could he have such a big mouth?

“That’s right, we heard Section Chief Lin talking to the factory manager. Do you still want to deny it?” said the person next to Jiang Wei.

Chen Feng suddenly realized that it wasn’t Lin Xiaoyi who had a big mouth, but rather that they had been overheard by someone while they were talking.

“Of course I don’t admit it.” Chen Feng found it amusing and said directly, “What, am I the only one in the world named Chen Feng? Did you hear them talking about me? What if it wasn’t me? You think you can open a restaurant just because you picked up a bean from the ground? If you don’t believe me, let’s go find the factory manager and Section Chief Lin to confront them now. Do you want to hear what they have to say?”

Chen Feng rolled his eyes at Jiang Wei and said coldly, “What if I can’t be transferred? What, you come here with baseless accusations and I’m supposed to swear an oath? If I say you, Jiang Wei, don’t pay for your food, and you, Liao Long, don’t wipe your butt after you poop, do you two want to swear an oath?”

Chen Feng packed up his things and said irritably, “What bad luck!” Then he turned and left, ignoring the two of them.

After Chen Feng left, the two could only look at each other, sensing that something was wrong, but they couldn’t quite put their finger on it.

As Chen Feng walked out of the workshop, he found it somewhat amusing. Some people, provoked by others, didn’t care whether the matter concerned them or not, and just came to shout and yell, not even realizing they were being used as pawns.

As for housing, are you kidding me? Even though I’m no longer at Wanhuai Machinery Factory, Lin Youwei is still here. Why should I give up? What, are you going to give me a house as soon as I go to Wanhuai Coal Mine? That’s ridiculous!

Lin Youwei, who was waiting at the door, also finished work. The two walked home together. On the way, Chen Feng said, “Master’s wife, I’m thinking we should buy a bicycle. It will be more convenient for us to commute to and from get off work.”

Lin Youwei chuckled and said, “We’re only a few minutes’ walk from the machinery factory, and it’ll be even closer when we get housing. What would we need a bicycle for?”

Chen Feng tugged at Lin Youwei’s sleeve and smiled, “It’s alright, I’m here!”
