- After Work, I Brought Home a Devilish Beauty
- Chapter 41 - Following in Their Footsteps
Evening.
The last rays of the setting sun bathed the streets in a warm orange glow.
Chiba and Lucifer walked silently toward the amusement park.
After a long silence, Lucifer finally spoke.
“My Lord…”
“No matter what, Yuichi Sakai is still just a human.”
“Are you certain you want to do this?”
“…Yes.”
Chiba answered without hesitation.
Lucifer frowned.
“But we still don’t know who our opponent is.”
“Wouldn’t it be wiser to gather more information before acting?”
Chiba stopped walking.
She glanced at him expressionlessly.
“…Whose decision is this?”
“Yours…”
“…Or mine?”
Lucifer immediately lowered his head.
“…My apologies.”
He fell silent.
Noticing that her tone had been harsher than intended, Chiba spoke again a few moments later.
“…Yuichi is still useful to us.”
“So…”
“He can’t die yet.”
Lucifer nodded.
“…Understood.”
Even so…
He couldn’t suppress the doubts in his heart.
Back in Anstertandin…
Countless humans had begged Chiba to spare their lives.
She had never once shown them mercy.
She treated everyone equally.
Her enemies.
Her subordinates.
Even her own family.
She always remained distant.
So why…
Why would his master willingly risk her own life to save a single human?
Yuichi Sakai…
Was only human.
After walking for a while, Chiba suddenly stopped.
“…Lucifer.”
“…Someone’s following us.”
She had sensed it ever since they left the hospital.
At first, she assumed it was simply someone walking the same route.
But after several turns…
The same presence was still behind them.
That could no longer be a coincidence.
Lucifer immediately turned around.
Sure enough…
A girl hurriedly ducked behind a nearby wall, desperately trying to hide herself.
Despite the distance, Lucifer’s eyesight was more than enough.
“…Alice.”
He narrowed his eyes.
How did the Hero manage to follow us this far?
If Alice intended to fight…
She could have attacked back at the hospital.
Why wait until now?
Still…
Allowing a Hero to secretly trail behind them was far too dangerous.
Lucifer spoke coldly.
“…Come out.”
“How long are you planning to hide?”
Alice froze.
Realizing there was no point pretending anymore, she reluctantly stepped into the open.
She crossed her arms and snorted.
“…As expected.”
“You demons noticed me after all.”
To be fair…
Alice’s tracking skills were excellent.
She had deliberately matched the pace of pedestrians, worn ordinary clothes, and carefully concealed her presence.
Yet…
The demons had still discovered her.
It irritated her more than she wanted to admit.
Lucifer looked at her indifferently.
“…Why are you following us?”
Alice looked away.
“I-I wasn’t following you.”
“We just happened to be going the same way.”
Then she quickly added,
“…Besides.”
“Once I rescue Yuichi…”
“I’ll kill both of you.”
Lucifer merely scoffed.
“…We’ll see if you’re capable of that.”
Before long…
The three arrived at the amusement park.
Something immediately felt wrong.
It was Sunday.
Normally, the park should have been overflowing with visitors.
Instead…
The entire amusement park was deserted.
Not a single person could be seen.
Every attraction was closed.
Only the haunted house remained open.
Without saying a word, Chiba and Lucifer entered.
Alice silently followed behind them.
The deeper they went…
The darker the corridors became.
Fortunately, darkness meant nothing to demons.
Their crimson eyes saw through the shadows as though it were daylight.
Chiba carefully surveyed every room.
There were dozens of them.
Finding Yuichi would take time.
Many of the doors were locked and required complicated mechanisms to open.
For Lucifer…
That wasn’t much of a problem.
With one powerful kick after another…
The locked doors burst open with ease.
Nearly ten minutes passed.
Room after room…
Nothing.
No sign of Yuichi.
Finally…
Chiba stopped in front of the only room they hadn’t searched.
A rusted metal plaque hung beside the door.
Laboratory
She stared at it quietly.
If the message they had received was telling the truth…
Then Yuichi was probably inside.
Chiba turned toward Lucifer.
“…Lucifer.”
“I’m counting on you.”
Lucifer nodded solemnly.
He stepped forward and stood before the heavy metal door.
Taking a slow breath…
He calmly placed one hand against it.
