More than a week had passed since Alice and Jebecarred arrived in Japan.

Originally, they had intended to hunt down the demons immediately. However, because the city was always crowded with people, they never found an opportunity to strike without exposing themselves.

Left with no other choice, they decided to settle down temporarily.

The money they had borrowed from Yuichi had almost run out.

If they wanted to survive, they needed jobs.

As they wandered through town, they noticed countless storefronts displaying “Part-Time Staff Wanted” signs.

With renewed hope, Alice and Jebecarred began visiting each one.

Alice was full of confidence.

After all, she was a Hero.

Surely employers would be honored to have someone like her working for them.

Reality, however…

Was far crueler.

Being a Hero meant absolutely nothing in this world.

Neither of them had any work experience.

Alice was proud and uncompromising, while Jebecarred insisted on staying wherever Alice worked.

Although Alice’s appearance attracted plenty of attention…

Beauty alone couldn’t generate profit for a business.

One interview after another ended in rejection.

“We could always ask Yuichi Sakai for help…”

Jebecarred suggested quietly.

Alice rejected the idea immediately.

“Absolutely not!”

“I’m a Hero.”

“I will never rely on a human.”

Earlier that day, one shop owner had suggested that Alice wear cat ears and work at a maid café to attract customers.

The suggestion earned him a thorough beating.

Another employer thought Jebecarred’s impressive physique would make him perfect for construction work.

Unfortunately, Jebecarred refused because Alice wouldn’t be working there too.

As a result…

Neither of them could find employment.

Now they wandered aimlessly through the streets.

“…We’ve already visited every shop in this district.”

“It doesn’t look promising.”

Just then, Alice noticed a small building tucked away in a quiet alley.

A “Now Hiring” notice hung beside its entrance.

She immediately pointed toward it.

“Jebecarred.”

“Let’s try that one.”

“…Alright.”

With a helpless sigh, the two walked inside.

The moment they stepped through the entrance, the atmosphere changed completely.

The room was dimly lit, elegant, and unnaturally quiet.

A young waitress wearing glasses approached them with a professional smile.

She wore a dark gray business uniform, black stockings, and high heels, giving the impression of a capable secretary.

Alice stepped forward.

“Excuse me.”

“We saw the hiring notice outside.”

“Are you still recruiting?”

“Please wait a moment.”

“I’ll inform my employer.”

The waitress bowed politely before disappearing into the back office.

Several minutes later, she returned.

This time, the polite smile had vanished.

She respectfully lowered her head.

“Hero Alice.”

“Hero Jebecarred.”

“Our employer has been expecting you.”

The atmosphere instantly became tense.

Alice’s eyes narrowed.

“…Who are you?”

Beside her, Jebecarred instinctively reached toward the sword strapped across his back.

The waitress remained perfectly calm.

“Please don’t misunderstand.”

“We have no intention of harming you.”

“If you have questions…”

“…Please come inside.”

Alice exchanged a cautious glance with Jebecarred.

After a brief hesitation…

They followed her.

The waitress led them into a spacious office.

Inside, a middle-aged man sat comfortably on a leather sofa with a cigarette between his fingers.

A strange mask concealed his face completely.

Without waiting to be invited, Alice spoke first.

“Who are you?”

“And how do you know about Anstertandin?”

The masked man quietly tapped the ash from his cigarette into a crystal ashtray.

He ignored her question entirely.

His arrogant attitude immediately irritated Jebecarred.

Without warning, he reached for the greatsword on his back.

Before he could draw it—

The masked man casually flicked a finger.

An invisible force exploded through the room.

Boom!

Jebecarred was thrown backward and crashed heavily into the wall.

“…!”

Alice’s pupils contracted.

The masked man smiled calmly.

“My, my.”

“That wasn’t very polite.”

“I merely wished to have a conversation.”

His strange, almost playful tone made the room feel even colder.

Alice stared at him silently.

Even Jebecarred couldn’t react…

Who exactly is this man?

The masked man slowly crossed his legs.

“Who I am…”

“…isn’t important.”

“What matters…”

“…is that I can help you achieve your revenge.”

His words instantly froze Alice in place.

“…Revenge?”

He nodded.

“You became a Hero because demons destroyed your family.”

“You’ve devoted your entire life to destroying them.”

“I can help you accomplish that goal.”

Alice unconsciously clenched her fists.

Memories she had tried to bury resurfaced once again.

The flames.

The screams.

Her parents.

Everything had been taken from her by demons.

That hatred had driven her forward ever since.

It had become her belief.

No matter the cost…

She would make the demons pay.

After a long silence, Alice finally asked,

“…How?”

The masked man smiled beneath his mask.

“For now…”

“Work here.”

“And wait.”

“The demons will come to you soon enough.”
