After Work, I Brought Home a Devilish Beauty - Chapter 14
After arriving at Lucifer’s new apartment, Yuichi looked around the room and immediately froze.
“…This place is incredible.”
The apartment was far more luxurious than he had expected.
A massive flat-screen television occupied one wall of the living room. Soft leather sofas surrounded an elegant coffee table, while a polished sandalwood bookshelf added a touch of sophistication. Every piece of furniture looked expensive.
But none of that was what shocked Yuichi the most.
“This place has…”
“…two bedrooms and a living room?”
Compared to his tiny one-room apartment, this was practically a mansion.
Unable to contain his curiosity, Yuichi turned toward Lucifer.
“Out of curiosity…”
“How much is the rent?”
Lucifer thought for a moment before answering.
“Approximately two hundred thousand yen per month.”
Yuichi nearly choked.
“Two hundred thousand?!”
That was almost half of his monthly salary.
Lucifer continued explaining as if the amount were completely ordinary.
“The landlord offered me a discount.”
“Apparently the room is difficult to rent because strange noises can sometimes be heard from the neighboring rooms at night.”
“It doesn’t bother me.”
Yuichi silently remembered exactly what kind of building they were standing in.
…That explains everything.
Still…
Even with the discount, the rent was unbelievably expensive.
Trying to remain calm, Yuichi asked another question.
“So…”
“After paying this month’s rent…”
“How much money do you have left?”
Lucifer answered honestly.
“Very little.”
“Certainly not enough to pay next month’s rent.”
Yuichi buried his face in his hands.
This guy really spent almost everything…
Lucifer suddenly turned toward Chiba.
“My Lady.”
“If you wish…”
“You are welcome to live here with me.”
“I refuse.”
Chiba answered without the slightest hesitation.
Lucifer froze.
It felt as though someone had driven a sword straight through his heart.
He had rented such a spacious apartment specifically so Chiba could enjoy a better place to live.
Only to be rejected instantly.
“…Would you perhaps like to reconsider?”
“There is no need.”
Chiba calmly shook her head.
“I’m perfectly comfortable living with Yuichi.”
“So you don’t have to worry about me.”
Yuichi couldn’t help thinking…
Why does this sound like a father asking his married daughter to move back home?
Lucifer’s expression became visibly dejected.
Still…
As the proud Grand Marshal of the Demon Army, he refused to show weakness.
After taking a deep breath, he forced a smile.
“…Very well.”
“If time permits…”
“I shall visit you often.”
Although he tried to sound composed, the disappointment in his voice was impossible to hide.
Watching the exchange, Yuichi finally decided to speak.
“Visiting Chiba is fine…”
“But have you actually thought about your own situation?”
Lucifer looked confused.
“My situation?”
Yuichi sighed.
“Next month’s rent.”
“How are you planning to pay it?”
The question struck its target perfectly.
For the first time, Lucifer genuinely fell silent.
After a long pause, he stubbornly crossed his arms.
“Hmph.”
“Why should a lowly human concern himself with my rent?”
The statement sounded less like a fearsome demon commander…
…and more like a child refusing to admit defeat.
Yuichi couldn’t help smiling bitterly.
“I don’t think that’s going to solve anything.”
“If you keep doing what you did before…”
“You’ll end up back at the police station.”
“…Or as you like to call it…”
“…the Gates of Hell.”
Lucifer frowned.
Deep down, he knew Yuichi was right.
Ever since arriving in this world, his magical power had been severely restricted.
He could no longer rely on overwhelming strength to solve every problem.
He had been trying to adapt.
Trying to exercise restraint.
Unfortunately…
None of that helped him pay the rent.
Seeing the troubled expression on the demon’s face, Yuichi finally made up his mind.
He let out a long sigh.
“I guess there’s only one solution.”
Lucifer looked up.
“What solution?”
Yuichi smiled.
“Come work with me.”
“…Work?”
Lucifer repeated the unfamiliar proposal.
“That’s right.”
“Get a job.”
“It’s the simplest way to earn money.”
Yuichi folded his arms.
“Everyone in this world works.”
“It’s nothing to be ashamed of.”
“In fact, society wouldn’t function without workers.”
Lucifer quietly listened.
Then, to Yuichi’s surprise, he slowly nodded.
“…I understand.”
Before becoming the Demon Grand Marshal, Lucifer himself had once been an ordinary soldier.
Everything he possessed today had been earned through years of hard work, discipline, and countless battles.
In that sense…
Working in another world wasn’t entirely different.
Perhaps this was simply another battlefield.
A place where he would once again prove his worth.
He clenched his fist.
“I shall consider your proposal seriously.”
One day, he would become successful in this strange new world.
He would earn enough money to support both himself and Chiba.
And when that day came…
He would proudly fulfill the promise he had made to his late king.
Thus, with renewed determination, the legendary Demon Grand Marshal prepared to begin an entirely new journey—
Not as a conqueror…
But as a part-time worker in modern Japan.
