- Chapter 15 - A Promise to Settle the Score
Butler Li gave a respectful bow.
“Yes, Madam.”
On the third floor, inside Fu Juezhou’s bedroom, Qiao Ling stood stiffly at the doorway.
Her cheeks were flushed red with anger, and her eyes looked as though they might overflow with tears at any moment.
Fu Juezhou had already climbed off Tang Sui and was now sitting on the edge of the bed, gently rubbing her temples.
“Qiao Ling.”
“What are you doing here?”
Qiao Ling never took her eyes off Tang Sui.
“My mommy brought me.”
Then she pointed accusingly.
“It’s all Tang Sui’s fault.”
“She made everyone at school find out that I got beaten up.”
Still lying comfortably on the bed, Tang Sui rested her head on one hand and smiled lazily.
“Disobedient children deserve a spanking.”
Unable to tolerate another word, Fu Juezhou snatched up a pillow and threw it at her.
“Get off my bed.”
Tang Sui caught the pillow with a laugh.
Picking up her phone, she crooked a finger toward Fu Juezhou.
“My dear daughter…”
“There really is a secret inside this phone.”
Some of the alcohol haze finally left Fu Juezhou’s mind.
“Get lost.”
Tang Sui only sighed before turning to Qiao Ling.
“Little Qiao Ling.”
“Would you like to see it?”
“It’s a secret about Fu Juezhou.”
Qiao Ling immediately became curious.
Despite her dislike for Tang Sui, she hurried closer to peek at the screen.
Fu Juezhou frowned.
After everything that had happened while she was drunk…
There really might be something embarrassing.
“I’ll look.”
Tang Sui smiled sweetly.
“Then come here.”
As soon as both girls leaned over, Tang Sui tapped the screen.
The video began to play.
A familiar voice drifted from the speakers.
“Baby…”
“Whose puppy are you?”
“Aren’t you Mommy’s good little puppy?”
The next voice belonged unmistakably to Fu Juezhou.
“Yes.”
“I’m Stepmother’s good little puppy.”
Silence.
Qiao Ling stood frozen for several seconds before slowly turning toward Fu Juezhou.
Her eyes widened with complete disbelief.
“Zhou…”
“That was you?”
“That’s disgusting!”
“That’s so embarrassing!”
Since the day they met, Fu Juezhou had always looked down on everyone else.
Qiao Ling had never imagined hearing those words come from her mouth.
Fu Juezhou gripped the bedsheets tightly.
Trying to remain calm, she spoke through clenched teeth.
“Qiao Ling.”
“Shut up.”
Then she stood.
“That’s enough.”
“Both of you…”
“Get out of my room.”
“I’m taking a shower.”
Tang Sui had already teased her enough.
Putting away her phone, she climbed off the bed and headed toward the door.
Before leaving, she looked back and winked.
Her peach-blossom eyes curved into an unmistakably mischievous smile.
“Little puppy.”
“You’d better behave.”
Then she left.
Fu Juezhou remained standing where she was, staring blankly at the closed door.
Qiao Ling still hadn’t moved.
Her brows were tightly knitted, and her large drooping eyes shimmered with disappointment.
“Zhou…”
“You’ve let me down.”
She had always believed Fu Juezhou hated Tang Sui more than anyone.
Yet now they had slept in the same bed.
There was even a video of Fu Juezhou obediently calling herself Tang Sui’s puppy.
The faint mark from Tang Sui’s slap had only just faded.
Even the cut at the corner of her lip still ached.
She hated Tang Sui.
And she hated anyone who sided with Tang Sui.
Clenching her fists, Qiao Ling’s eyes grew moist.
“We’re not friends anymore!”
Fu Juezhou frowned impatiently.
“Then leave.”
She had never considered Qiao Ling her best friend.
They simply happened to belong to the same social circle.
Puffing out her cheeks, Qiao Ling looked pitiful.
“If you help me deal with Tang Sui…”
“I’ll forgive you.”
Fu Juezhou rolled her eyes.
She couldn’t even be bothered to answer.
Instead, she walked straight toward the dressing room.
Watching her leave, Qiao Ling lowered her lashes.
Lately…
Something had begun bothering her.
Why didn’t everyone simply obey her?
“Mommy!”
The moment she reached the first floor, Qiao Ling rushed into the living room and threw herself toward her mother.
Unfortunately, being nearly as tall as an adult made hugging impossible.
Instead, she leaned against her mother’s shoulder and whined,
“I missed you.”
Qiao Yuebai gently stroked her daughter’s hair.
“My baby.”
“Are you unhappy?”
Qiao Ling immediately complained,
“Zhou and Tang Sui are getting along.”
“She betrayed me.”
After pinching Qiao Ling’s cheek affectionately, Qiao Yuebai lifted her gaze toward the woman seated opposite her.
“So, Fu Qing…”
“What’s your decision?”
“Will you hand Tang Sui over to me?”
“Or are you going to protect her?”
Fu Qing calmly set down her teacup.
“Boss Qiao.”
“Tang Sui is an independent individual.”
“She isn’t my property.”
Qiao Yuebai narrowed her phoenix eyes.
“I didn’t come here to hear meaningless words.”
“Your woman hurt my daughter.”
“As the responsible party…”
“You owe me an explanation.”
Fu Qing smiled gently.
The warmth in her expression never seemed forced.
“I’m afraid you’ve misunderstood.”
“Tang Sui isn’t my lover.”
“We’ve already signed a marriage agreement.”
“She is my fiancée.”
“And from what I know…”
“Miss Qiao struck first.”
“Matters between young people should remain between young people.”
Qiao Yuebai let out a cold laugh.
“Fu Qing.”
“If I remember correctly…”
“You wanted access to the American market.”
“Do you no longer care?”
“For the sake of an ordinary woman?”
Fu Qing’s expression remained unchanged.
“Threatening me won’t achieve anything.”
“If our cooperation ends…”
“You’ll suffer losses as well.”
At that moment, Qiao Ling looked up pitifully.
“Aunt Fu…”
“I never hit Tang Sui.”
“But she hit me really hard.”
“My cheek still hurts.”
“My lip even bled.”
Holding her mother’s arm, she spoke sweetly,
“Mommy…”
“Don’t argue with Aunt Fu.”
“I only want to return the pain she gave me.”
Qiao Yuebai’s eyes softened immediately.
“Of course.”
“I’ll do as my baby wishes.”
Turning back to Fu Qing, she said coolly,
“I’m not unreasonable.”
“Just call Tang Sui here.”
“My daughter only wants to hit her back once.”
“Alright.”
A calm, pleasant voice answered before Fu Qing could.
Everyone looked toward the staircase.
Leaning casually against the railing stood Tang Sui.
Dressed in white, with long black hair cascading over her shoulders, she smiled gently.
Qiao Yuebai frowned.
“That’s Tang Sui?”
Qiao Ling nodded firmly.
“Yes.”
“She’s the one.”
“My mommy…”
“She bullied me.”
Qiao Yuebai looked back at Fu Qing.
“She agreed herself.”
“You won’t stop us now, will you?”
Fu Qing smiled peacefully.
“Of course not.”
“I have no right to interfere.”
Tang Sui descended the stairs at an unhurried pace.
Her gaze eventually settled on Fu Qing.
The original owner had met her only twice.
Yet she perfectly matched the novel’s description.
Hair neatly combed back.
Long brows.
Gentle phoenix eyes.
The faint lines at the corners of her eyes only enhanced her composed elegance.
She radiated calmness earned through time.
Stopping beside her, Tang Sui maintained an appropriate distance.
Not too close.
Not too far.
“Qiao Ling really isn’t very adorable.”
Her voice carried its usual playful ambiguity.
Fu Qing turned slightly toward her.
Without the slightest surprise, she said,
“Tang Sui.”
“Thank you for taking care of Juezhou last night.”
Tang Sui raised an eyebrow.
“Remember to transfer the money.”
Fu Qing nodded.
“Of course.”
The exchange flowed naturally.
As though they had known one another for years.
Unable to bear it any longer, Qiao Ling jumped to her feet.
“Tang Sui!”
“You promised!”
Panic flickered across her face, afraid Tang Sui might suddenly change her mind.
Tang Sui brushed her hair behind one ear.
“Fine.”
“You can hit me.”
Qiao Ling immediately shook her head.
“Not here.”
“We’re going to your room.”
With both her mother and Aunt Fu downstairs, Tang Sui wouldn’t dare fight back.
Tang Sui laughed softly.
“I just came downstairs.”
“But if that’s what you want…”
“Then let’s go back up.”
Turning around, she headed toward the staircase.
Qiao Ling’s eyes lit up.
Without hesitation, she grabbed a cup of tea from the coffee table and hurried after her.
Watching them leave, Qiao Yuebai leaned back against the sofa.
“Fu Qing.”
“You should understand.”
“We’re both mothers.”
“If Juezhou were bullied…”
“You’d probably be even angrier than I am.”
Fu Qing lowered her gaze to the rippling tea inside her cup.
“It still seems inappropriate for adults to interfere with children’s disputes.”
Qiao Yuebai smiled faintly.
“That’s contradictory.”
“If Tang Sui is your fiancée…”
“Then she’s part of our generation.”
“In that sense…”
“She’s bullying someone younger.”
After a pause, she added with obvious sarcasm,
“You’ve chosen someone rather troublesome.”
“Don’t let her upset your mother.”
Fu Qing calmly lifted her teacup.
“That’s my family’s concern.”
“You needn’t trouble yourself over it.”
Compared to the composed atmosphere downstairs…
The situation upstairs was far more tense.
The moment Qiao Ling entered Tang Sui’s room, she locked the door behind her with a loud click.
Tang Sui sat casually on the edge of the bed.
Looking at the girl with a half-smile, she remarked,
“Little Qiao Ling…”
“It seems you came well prepared.”
