A Long-Awaited Marriage - Chapter 54
Jiang also lay in bed tossing and turning, unable to sleep. Jiang Dahai’s words kept echoing in his mind, as if something was about to burst forth.
But when he arrived at Jiang Dahai’s house, even though he had prepared himself mentally, he hadn’t expected Jiang Dahai to be so uncouth and to make things difficult for Lu Anran right in front of him.
After that unpleasant experience, Jiang never brought Lu Anran to his house again. When he unexpectedly learned that he and Lu Anran had broken up, Jiang Dahai was even smug for a while.
Why was Jiang Dahai feeling guilty? What else didn’t he know?
Although he hated Lu Anran’s decisiveness, he wanted to know the answer even more.
In this vast sea of people, Lu Anran, where are you…?
…
After leaving Jiang Ye’s house, Zhou Yichen drove quickly to his own home.
“My parents are here, so I shouldn’t travel far. I should come back to visit them more often,” Zhou Yichen thought to himself.
He changed into slippers outside the door, and as soon as he opened the door, a large forehead peeked out from inside. “Cousin, surprise!”
Fang Xiaoya looked at Zhou Yichen with a smile.
“Xiaoya? What brings you here?” Zhou Yichen asked, somewhat surprised. “Why aren’t you at home with your aunt’s husband? It’s rare for him to come back to China.”
“It’s because he rarely comes back that I let him keep my mom company~ I can’t disturb their time together.” Fang Xiaoya affectionately took Zhou Yichen’s arm and pulled him into the house.
“You’re not as thoughtful as your sister. Xiaoya came over last night and chatted with me and your dad. She got up early this morning to go grocery shopping with us and made a lot of your favorite dishes,” Lin Fengying said reproachfully to Zhou Yichen.
“By the way, why are you so late? Have you eaten?”
Zhou Yichen nodded. “I ate.” Then he shook his head. “No. Is there anything else to eat?”
At Jiang Ye’s house, he only managed a few mouthfuls of rice. The atmosphere was so oppressive that even eating felt stifling.
Lin Fengying quickly reheated the three dishes she had prepared for her son, rearranged them, and placed them on the table. She sat down next to Zhou Yichen and said, “Go eat. After you finish eating, take your dad and me to stay at your aunt’s house for a few days.”
Zhou Yichen looked at Lin Fengying with some surprise, “Mom, you’re willing to go to Auntie’s house?”
“Why wouldn’t we agree? Xiaoya came to pick us up herself. Besides, it’s rare for your uncle to come back to China, so we should go and visit him. It’s good for siblings to visit each other more often so that their relationships can last.”
“Second Aunt is absolutely right!” Fang Xiaoya rested her head on Lin Fengying’s shoulder.
My maternal grandmother had five siblings. My second aunt was the fourth oldest, and her mother, Lin Fengxian, was the youngest. There were also my maternal uncles and my other aunt.
Her mother and second aunt were the closest, and consequently, she was also closest to her cousin.
While eating, Zhou Yichen secretly gave Fang Xiaoya a thumbs up. Although his cousin could be quite willful at times, her respect for her elders was impeccable.
“I’m going to look for that pretty female anchor Xiaoya mentioned. Xiaoya said she’s in Nancheng. If she’s a good match for you, she might even be able to set you up with someone.”
Lin Fengying looked at her son. He was good in every way, except that he was almost 30 years old and had never been in a relationship, which was really unusual.
Zhou Yichen was so shocked that he spat out a mouthful of rice. “Mom, you’re just going along with Fang Xiaoya’s nonsense! Please don’t do anything reckless! I don’t want to be thought of as crazy!”
“How is this nonsense? How is this messing around? You know Aunt Huifang, right? She’s my best friend. Her son is a year younger than you, and he’s already over four months old! I even went to her one-month celebration!”
“Look at you! Forget about marriage, you should at least have a girlfriend! After all these years, you’re still a bachelor! Tell me, how can your mother not be worried!”
Everything else was negotiable, but on this matter, Zhou Yichen really couldn’t agree. He continued eating his rice, ignoring Lin Fengying’s nagging.
After finishing the meal, he grabbed Fang Xiaoya’s ear and said, “Fang Xiaoya, that’s why you talked so much!”
“Second Aunt, help me! My cousin is bullying me again!” Fang Xiaoya jumped up and down and hid behind Lin Fengying, making a face at Zhou Yichen.
With his mother protecting him, Zhou Yichen couldn’t do anything about her.
“Cousin, when I see that female streamer again, I’ll take a screenshot and show it to you. Maybe she’s the one you like!” Fang Xiaoya had completely forgotten the anger she felt when she was kicked out of the live stream.
“Let’s talk about it when you find it,” Zhou Yichen replied casually.
“Second Aunt, why don’t you and Uncle ride in my car? I drive slowly, so it won’t sway.” Fang Xiaoya smiled mischievously.
Lin Fengying gently pinched her little nose, nodded in agreement, and then said with emotion, “In the end, it’s always the daughter who is the most considerate.”
