Jiang also turned around abruptly, asking incredulously, “What did you say?!”

Qiao Xiuzhen covered her flushed face and silently walked to a corner, too embarrassed to speak again.

Jiang gritted her teeth, her face looking extremely pale.

“Zhou Yichen, I’m so sorry to have troubled you to come to my house and see such a joke. You should go back and check on your parents; they must be worried sick.”

Zhou Yichen gently patted Jiang Ye’s shoulder, glanced back indifferently at his foolish and selfish parents, and left Jiang Ye’s house without saying another word.

After Zhou Yichen left, Jiang Ye sat down on the sofa and looked coldly at Jiang Dahai, “Was it your idea again?”

“I can’t count on your son; he’s a traitor. I’ll have another one with good character to take care of me in my old age,” Jiang Dahai said ruthlessly.

“Heh.” Jiang rolled his eyes indifferently. Such words could no longer hurt him. He only resented his mother for living a weak and incompetent life.

But no matter what, his mother still had some genuine affection and love for him. He was over fifty years old; he couldn’t just stand by and watch her suffer like this.

“Do you know how dangerous it is for older mothers to give birth? Do you think childbirth is easy? Jiang Dahai, how can you still be so selfish!”

“Over the years, you’ve constantly beaten and verbally abused my mother. As her husband, have you ever shown her any respect or care? No! Why should she have to endure the pain of childbirth for you again?”

“We’re all halfway to the grave, do you think you can wait for the child in your belly to take care of you in your old age?”

Jiang felt the veins on his head throbbing. What sins had he committed to deserve such parents?

“Shut up!” Jiang Dahai roared and charged over, about to hit Jiang Ye again, but Qiao Xiuzhen held him tightly, crying and shouting with snot and tears streaming down her face, “What are you doing? Our son rarely comes home, are you going to drive him away again?”

Jiang Dahai was panting heavily, and the more he looked at Jiang, the more annoyed he became. “It’s none of your business to interfere with what I do! If you don’t want to see your mother suffer, then get back here and marry Chen Xiaoxian! If you behave well, I might consider giving you half of my company and my assets.”

“You think I care?” Jiang stood up, dusted off non-existent dust, and looked at Qiao Xiuzhen, saying, “Mom, are you willing to give birth to this child?”

Qiao Xiuzhen fell silent.

Her son is right. She’s practically halfway to her grave. Why bother having a child?

The thought of walking down the street with a big pregnant belly made her feel ashamed. If Jiang Ye got married and had a baby in the next year or two, her second child would be about the same age as her grandchild, and the thought made her feel depressed.

But Jiang Dahai is a domineering and unreasonable person, sigh…

Jiang also knew that his mother couldn’t control Jiang Dahai. No matter how much he disliked Jiang Dahai, he had no right to decide the life or death of a fetus.

A sense of powerlessness washed over Jiang Ye, making it hard for him to breathe. He really wanted to leave, but the last vestige of tenderness he felt for Qiao Xiuzhen kept him at home for the time being.

Originally, Chen Xiaoxian’s family was going to have dinner at Jiang Ye’s house, but because of Qiao Xiuzhen’s health, Jiang Ye booked a private room at a restaurant near his home.

Jiang Dahai changed his usual irritable and fierce ways, and became kind and gentle to Chen Xiaoxian’s family. Even Jiang Ye, whom he usually disliked, showed more genuine affection.

Jiang scoffed, having never known he was such a good actor. It would be a waste of his talent if he didn’t win a Best Actor award.

Jiang ate his food silently. If it weren’t for Qiao Xiuzhen, he would be on his way back to Nancheng right now. He found those polite, flattering words rather unpleasant.

He glanced at Chen Xiaoxian unintentionally. Her appearance was decent, but not particularly outstanding. Judging from her speech and mannerisms, she was the type that elders liked.

He just didn’t like it.

Since taking her seat, Chen Xiaoxian’s gaze hadn’t left Jiang Ye. She was very satisfied with this blind date.

“You two, go out for a walk. Young people shouldn’t sit with us old folks; it’s too uncomfortable,” Jiang Dahai said with a smile to Jiang Ye and Chen Xiaoxian.

His expression was just like that of a loving old father.

Chen Xiaoxian stood up, her face flushed. “Jiang Ye, come for a walk with me.”

Jiang put down her chopsticks, took out a tissue to wipe her mouth, and without looking at anyone, said coldly, “I’m full, I’m going back now.”

After saying that, she turned and walked out of the private room, completely disregarding the feelings of others. Chen Xiaoxian stood there dumbfounded. She had never been treated so coldly before, and she burst into tears.

Jiang Dahai gritted his teeth in anger. This unfilial son, wasn’t he being too disrespectful?
