A Long-Awaited Marriage - Chapter 22
“But this is the first time I’ve invited you to a movie. I’m a girl, so you should at least show some gentlemanly manners!”
“But tomorrow is the weekend, and my cousin didn’t say you were meeting with a client.” Fang Xiaoya bit her lip in frustration.
Jiang didn’t even lift her eyelids. “The timing of Zhou Yichen picking you up was set, so he didn’t know.”
For his good friend’s sake, he’s already trying his best to restrain himself. If he keeps nagging, he might lose his temper.
“Jiang Ye, what did I do wrong? Why are you treating me like this?”
After being rejected time and time again, Fang Xiaoya finally lost her temper and shouted angrily, “Are you feeling particularly smug seeing me groveling and fawning over you like this?”
“What makes you so great?!”
Jiang frowned, stopped what she was doing, and slammed the pen on the table with a “bang”.
“For the sake of you being Zhou Yichen’s cousin, I’ll say it one last time: I don’t like you! Not in the past, not now, and not in the future!”
“roll!”
He practically clenched his teeth as he spoke, showing absolutely no respect for Fang Xiaoya.
Fang Xiaoya was startled by Jiang Ye’s sudden fierceness. She froze for a few seconds, covered her face, and ran out of Jiang Ye’s office crying.
“Alright, alright, stop crying. Look at you, your makeup is all ruined!” Zhou Yichen looked at his cousin, feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Once she starts crying, it goes on and on, with so many employees in the company watching.
“Cousin, how could he yell at me like that? He actually told me to get lost! Waaah~ My parents have never yelled at me since I was little~ Who does he think he is?” Fang Xiaoya got angrier and angrier, and felt more and more wronged.
“That’s your own fault. I warned you long ago not to mess with him; you’re not his type. But you wouldn’t listen!”
Fang Xiaoya wiped away her tears in anger. This was too much; it was perfect for kicking someone when they were down. “You’re still my cousin! You won’t even help me!”
“Hey, Fang Xiaoya, you should speak from your conscience! How am I not helping you? You come every Friday, and I’m the one who picks you up, okay? Do you know how much pressure I’m under?”
“There are plenty of fish in the sea, why insist on hanging yourself on one tree? You just graduated from university, why don’t you focus on getting a good job first, instead of trying to tackle this tough nut?”
Zhou Yichen was also a little angry; his cousin was being spoiled rotten.
“Hmph! You just won’t help me! I’m going to tell Auntie that you’re bullying me!” Fang Xiaoya wiped away another tear.
“Nonsense! If I were Jiang Ye, I wouldn’t like you either! Look at the state you’re in now!” Zhou Yichen was so annoyed by Fang Xiaoya’s nagging that he decided to add fuel to the fire.
This caused quite a stir, and Fang Xiaoya burst into tears again, hitting Zhou Yichen’s arms hard as she cried.
Zhou Yichen sighed to the heavens, utterly despondent, yet there was nothing he could do about it.
This was the first time the brother and sister had ever argued!
After Fang Xiaoya had cried and made a scene, seemingly realizing she had made a fool of herself, she tugged at Zhou Yichen’s sleeve and said with red eyes, “Cousin, I’m sorry~”
Zhou Yichen immediately deflated; he had indeed said some harsh words. His cousin was proud and arrogant; he shouldn’t have said those things.
He and his cousin grew up together. Among all the brothers and sisters in the family, they were the closest and best friends.
Zhou Yichen gently patted Fang Xiaoya’s head and said, “It’s good that you know you were wrong. You and Jiang Ye are both very important people to me.”
“I don’t want any unhappiness between you two. Wouldn’t it be better to just be ordinary friends?”
Fang Xiaoya pouted, “Cousin, you’ve never experienced what it’s like to like someone, that’s why you’re so nonchalant. The day you find someone you like, you’ll understand my pain.”
Zhou Yichen was suddenly stunned. How come he had never experienced what it felt like to like someone?
But that person never belonged to him. She treated him as a good friend.
Best friend, but not lover.
That girl’s name is Lu Anran.
Her voice, her smile, and her voice were already deeply etched in his mind.
When Jiang first brought Lu Anran to him, her eyes seemed to hold sparkling little stars, making her especially charming.
He suddenly became interested in her.
This is probably what love at first sight is all about.
She was indeed as beautiful as Jiang had described. No, no words could adequately describe her beauty…
Every time Jiang excitedly told him that Lu Anran was coming to Huicheng, he was secretly happy because he could see her again.
Even just a stolen glance would satisfy him.
